Hello everyone! I am very excited to be joining this group. I have read a lot of posts from scooterdawg forums over the last few months since I bought my little 49cc Peace Sports scooter and have gained a lot of knowledge. THANKS! I finally found the new board and will be participating here.
Yeah, so about my scoot....
I bought a used 2010 Peace Sports 50 scooter with the gy6 1p39qmb motor about 4 months ago. I lost the phone number for the guy I purchased the scooter from when I broke my cell phone. I didn't ask enough questions about the scooter....now I wish I knew more. I don't know if he was the original owner but guessing he is. Wonder about how well he did the break in when knew etc.. or if he did any kind of tweaks. He said he changed the oil before he sold it to me and I can see that the gear box oil has been changed since the nut is all rounded off/nearly stripped.
I changed the oil yesterday with 10 W 40 synthetic. I also changed the gear oil with appropriate oil. I found a vacuum hose that was disconnected and broken from the gear box and replaced it.
A couple of days after I got the scooter a jerk ran me off the road while going down hill at 40mph....took a hard tumble and cracked the front body panel by the light, lost the helmet hook panel under the seat and lost the fender in front along with the trunk broken. I broke my hand and couldnt walk for about a week on my leg. Sucked to say the least. Actually the scooter doesnt look too bad.. a little scratch on one side that I touched up with paint marker, and the small crack. The little dash board piece is a little loose, but easily fixed. You cant tell it was in a wreck really.
I am going to pep this little scooter up now....I am heavy...around 220lbs and our area is hilly. I am going to replace the clutch springs and get a performance clutch/clutch bell at 1.5k springs. Also will change to performance compression springs and a new performance belt. In addition I will be getting a new performance variator and rollers.
I am hoping to get some better acceleration, and hill climbing ability. Right now on a flat road I can get 40 miles per hour or close to it. I would like to get 45 consistently to ride on the main roads around here.
Next I plan to get into the carb (new main jet and rebuild or just replace with new carb) and get a performance free flow air filter.
Then CDI unrestricted.
Eventually I want to install a big bore 72cc kit...I think that will be big enough for what I am needing the scooter to do. May do cam and valves too..
Of course I will need a new muffler or mod my stock one.
I drilled 4 small holes in my air filter cover to let a little air in. I get about 2mph top speed from that. Thats the only thing I have done to mod the bike besides changing to new set of better tires.
I look forward to getting to know you guys and sharing ideas and experiences. I would be happy to hear any advice or help you have to share as I begin to build up this little scoot.
