Hi, I've been checking out the PAIR system on my scooter and I noticed that the tube going from the canister to the valve cover was in ruins! It seems a short tube comes from the valve cover and then connects to the tube going to the canister. The connection area looks like acid was eating at it until the tubes disconnected, and just a few inches past that connection the tube wall looks exploded out! From what I've read hot unburned fuel travels through this tube. Looks like the tube couldn't handle it. Anyways I've read plenty of tutorials on removing the pair system, but I think you're supposed to plug the hole under the valve cover. Essentially my scooter has the tube from the canister to the valve cover wide open. Would this cause any running problems? I believe I've read that altering the pair system can cause problems with scooters with other emission-type BS on them. Thank you.

I once had my tube burn through, too. Not only was the tube toast but it had burned the wires running to the battery. I had trouble finding an adequate replacement for the tube and had to replace both wires to the battery.
My scoot's pair system is a bit different from most but is mostly the same; I have a much smaller canister. Recently, I decided to remove it and blocked off the port on the head with an NCY block off plate. As far as I can tell there are no other emissions equipment on mine (EGR, etc.) Also, the authorities where I live are fairly lax about scooter emissions requirements.
So far I have not noticed any problems with the canister and complimentary hardware removed, this about 250 miles after making the change.
Good Luck.

I'll have to inspect the area better to check if anything else got melted. So you blocked it off with a plate, any idea if not blocking it would be a problem? My tube is toast and removed, but I didn't block anything off. My scooter doesn't currently run and I'm hoping to know if this could be contributing.

Perhaps there was some more collateral damage. Does it sound like it is attempting to turn over when you try to start it?
If you haven't replaced the tube/hose then maybe the open hole in the valve cover causes too much open air in the chamber. It is not necessary to use a block off plate but open holes or hoses not hooked up will prevent proper compression and keep it from running.
Anyone else with more experience than me, feel free to chime in.
