This may all be a complete coincidence, but the other day while riding, my scoot died down on me and wouldn't start back up. Got her home to check her out and realized a lead had come off the coil..put it back on and she started right up! Good right? Well, now she sputter and skips when accelerating. Very strange. She will still hit close to her top end of about 70mph during most of the ride, but she is definetely acting up. It's like every few seconds she tries to die and stall but decides to rev right back up and keep me going. It feels like I could literally ride across the country like this. I don't like it. She cranks and idles just fine, but the minute we get going down the road she starts up with this behavior. Could this be cdi or coil issue? Or perhaps I need to clean the carb?

Take that lead off and crimp the connector a bit. Sounds like a loose connection, some vibrations seat it, some vibrations un-seat it. Had a similar problem with a spark plug boot once, the internal clip was loose.

Same here. The connector was loose on the coil and wouldn't start, after a squeese with the pliers, it fired right up.

right again! thanks for the responses guys. bout time to order a new coil/plug and cdi set anyway. Thinking about going new stock though vs the ones you see labeled "performance". This scoot runs 75 mph on flat ground
