I have a year old Tao Tao 50cc and about half the time when the brakes are applied the 2 rear blinkers come on instead and the brake light. It seems the tail light cuts out completely when brakes are applied. Anyone have an idea on what's causing it or where to start? I had a shop fix it once and it came back week later

I hope you returned to the shop and had them work on it again. Esp if their "fix" lasted only a week. Otherwise, my best non-mech non-EE guess would be that you've got wires connecting that shouldn't. >'Kat

Well they made a point to say they were fixing it as a favor because it was on a couple month old bike and they said the warranty doesn't cover it. and the fix probably lasted 3-4 weeks in reality. It seems to mess up every time I ride for about 50% of the ride. I know when its messing up because when I hit brakes, my blinker lights on my dash will both light up dim as well

Sounds like the wires to the rear light assembly may be damaged or you have a loose wire back there in the assembly, or even more farfetched maybe the dealer doesn't know what they are doing and wired it wrong. The problem is most likely int he assembly though, a loose wire or incorrectly connected wire would cause those symptoms.
Do yourself a favor man, fix it then sell it, taotaos are known for being low quality with parts that fail often.

it's a ground problem,,had that on a few fiberglass fendered cars i built,,,electricity will seek a path quite like water,,,if they didn't mess with the wires you lost the ground to the rear lite pod somehow
