Don Knotts was very macho in "The Ghost and Mr Chicken", where he agreed to spend the night alone in a haunted house.
However, as Ensign Parker, during anti-aircraft gun practice, Conway shot down the airplane that was towing the aerial target, instead of the target that he was aiming at. Very macho.
