... or know of a good source to have some parts printed? I haven't shopped around for quotes just yet and I thought maybe someone could save me a little legwork. It appears that the build capacity for the consumer units would work fine for what I need.

Wish I could. I did some searching on that and found some kits to build your own 3 D printer, the least expensive was about $500 - $600 dollars, photos of the end product looked a little rough to me, that is what they were printing not the printer. Layers per inch is pretty important for the finished print.

I found pretty much the same.
You know what?!?.. .Duh, it just occurred to me that I guy I worked for a few years back has some kind of old-school 3D printer that uses a polymer binder and a fine powder ~ can't remember all the details. I'll have to give him a shout!

there is a site called Makersbot that has 3D printers i not sure how good the print quailty is though

You should try to get ahold of Paul jr from PJD he has so much in his shop and you could probably get him hooked on it and use him as an investor
