Ah, the boss is in fine condition, surprisingly. Hopefully i'll be able to run down there and get a clear picture. Just to be sure, its the metal cylinder right? Drive boss? Terminology is new to me, bare with me. ha

The boss is cylinder shaped about 2in long. Put the boss in the variator in your hands (not on the scoot) and check for play. There shouldn't be any wiggling. See pic #3 itistheride.boards.net/thread/7749/texas-variator-massacreIf you pulled off the cvt cover and your belt had that much slack, I'd suspect a possible main spring issue in the clutch.

The only time I had a variator do that was when some of the tranny bearings went bad. I went through 3 Koso's and 2 stock variators before I found the problem.
