Well sensitive scooterinos and scooteristas... Since studying all the rioting and mayhem going on in cities around the good old USA, our illustrious President says police should present a "softer image"... When I came across this European ad for French scooters, the image touched my heart... C'mon now, cops mounted on THESE might just do the job... Golly GEE, just watching these guys took away ALL my desire to kill, maim and burn my city down. Come to think of it, I don't think I had any desire to do that stuff BEFORE seeing this touching image.
Guess I'm getting soft in my old age.
I can see it now: a whole posse of macho cycle cops on these contraptions, releasing balloons and singing Kumbaya as they descend into the masses of raging looters and burning businesses... Order would surely be restored quicker than they could rack a shell into a pink, Hello Kitty M-16. Gosh, my neighbor's Wife actually HAS one of those!

Seriously, this appears to be an ad for a Peugeot SUPERCHARGED 125 scooter with the performance of a 250... Hmmm... I don't speak French, but that's what the copy seems to indicate. THAT could be a REALLY slick scoot!
Ride safe, and present a softer image in this nasty old world... Oh, YEAH... And remember, PANTS UP, DON'T LOOT... Now, WHERE did I put my Jocelyn Elders-approved "safer bullets"?

I don't think a softer appearance will change things. They can wear Hawaii shirts with Bermuda shorts and ride Honda Metropolitans and relations with the community still will not improve.
I would focus improved, non-lethal weapons for law enforcement.

Everything would probably still be about the same, except the cops riding those will be harassed by little kids on bikes with training wheels yelling "GET A REAL BIKE!"
They have a bicycle cop or two around town where I live, maybe they should have unicycle cops riding around town dressed like clowns? LOL!

I would focus improved, non-lethal weapons for law enforcement. I agree with you about the need for more non lethal weapons but they are only useful if you have the extra time to deploy them and also some distance from the suspect. In the real world things turn real bad in a blink of an eye. Nearby to me, two officers were holding a suspect on the ground, face down and he was lying on top of his hands and he wasn't submitting to being handcuffed. While struggling with him they kept yelling for him to show them his hands. So they then decide to use pepper spray on him and he gets his hand out and guess what? he's holding a gun and shoots both of them, killing one. |
