I will probably avoid the led one then. Would any motorcycle tach work on a scooter?

More or less, though you want a SMALL one.
The one I offered as an example is what I ended up with. Not bad - especially for the price. You can probably find one on ebay for about $12 ship incl.

That's the one If you buy it let me know - instructions of how to get the sense signal are crappy chinese and not understandable

I just wonder how I am going to mount this lol, maybe I will find a piece of metal to wrap around the left mirror bar and bolt it onto the piece of metal, kind of like how the metal pieces on the CVT cover that hold the cables out of the way work... Yeah instructions to hook it up would be appreciated. Says it will arrive next week.

You can mount it with one of these: Motorcycle Handlebar clamp (If you have access to your handlebars that is... some of mine are bare)

I don't have any handlebare bare, I suppose I could cut out a spot with my dremel though. Anything that I could use in the mirror screw spot that would maybe have a spot on top of it to also attach the mirror? Sounds like something they should have invented by now lol.

Will take a photo of how i mounted it in the morning (temp is down to a frigid 65 degrees, so going outside is impossible). Connections: there is a pair of wires for +12v ignition and ground another pair for +12v lights and ground (I just wired these pairs together) Then there is a green (?) "sense" wire which is the trigger. the instruction say nothing about where to get this. NOT from the coil input. NOT by wrapping around the spark wire (some other models are inductive and connect that way). This has to be spliced into the INPUT trigger to the CDI (from the stator). If that's not clear let me know.

That's the one.
Connect to the CDI wire from the stator

That's the one. Connect to the CDI wire from the stator Cool, I already have that spliced for the alarm system. Do you think I could hook both the alarm and the tach to it and still work? Well rather I have the wire hooked up to the alarm and passing through the electric switch in the alarm.

I'm confused as to WHY you would want the trigger from the stator to go to the alarm.
Perhaps you have +12vdc fed to the CDI also going to the alarm. That is NOT the stator trigger to the CDI.
The stator trigger will be a pulse every time the flywheel passes TDC (once every revolution).

The stator trigger will be a pulse every time the flywheel passes TDC (once every revolution). No, I disable the pickup by arming the alarm to disable hotwiring of any form. It passes through the alarm which basically just has a simple on/off switch inside it that is activated by arming the alarm. You can't start it by kicking it and hotwiring it. Sure you might be able to bridge the solenoid (I've seen this) to turn the electric starter but it will never fire.
