That "landing-gear" setup is pretty neat. It would have been ideal on that jet-fighter-style bike I mentioned!
When I was younger, it would not have appealed to me... Unless I TRIED it...! LOL! On a Big bagger, it would be pretty sweet. You don't need to be old, feeble or handicapped to appreciate easier handling on a 1,000 pound+ bike.
The Blastolene DecaPod seems to be mostly a one-off creation. No "factory" but each is different. I still like the dull-finish, more old-timey original best. It was on a small (125cc if I recall) 2-stroke. "Barry" on "Storage Wars" rode it on the show, and I was blown away at how cool it looked on the road! I thought then, the design could be adapted to most any scooter, of any size engine. Trouble was, with the DecaPod "kit" you had to adapt it to your scooter was around $8,000 plus shipping. And you still had to adapt it to your ride.
On the down side, it makes your scooter into a solo-only ride, with little storage... But then so is a Ruckus or a "skelly" or "nekkid" scoot.
The price is justifiable because of the incredible amount of hand-fabrication, but it's not a practical "business". Best to do like he's doing now, making one at a time for auction... Or, just show it to Jay Leno... He'll buy it!
Now, it needs a bubble canopy... LOL!
Fun stuff, but pricey!

If I knew for sure that the Elio will not turn out to be another Jim Bebe's Bede 5 event I think I would sell my Smart and order one. I'd still have the motor home, my Reflex, and an older Plymouth Voyager work wagon so I could wait a reasonable time for it. (My wife is in a Hospice care facility with only a few days to go so my lifestyle is about to change dramaticly very soon,)

I suspect the Elio will be just as successful as Liz Carmichael's 3-wheeler!

The Dale sports car, by Carmichael, does favor a contemporary Lotus Esprit a bit.
