I have a 2008 Tank 150cc Urban Sporty.
The weather here in SoCal is nice enough to ride, so it was time to break her out of the garage.
As usual. It will not start after months of garage time, so I did the regular stuff.
I pulled and cleaned the carb (some varnish, but not bad), flushed the fuel system and tank, changed out the spark plug, checked all fuel and vacuum lines, and an oil change.
Still not starting. I am thinking it is time to adjust the valves at this point.
The Tank has a frame support member 3" away from the bottom right valve cover bolt. I rounded this bolt off faster than you can say "ah shoot!".
I sprayed it with penetrating oil, and tapped on it with a hammer every few hours for a couple of days. Then I remembered I had a "Damaged bolt kit" from Sears. I never get rid of tools, and I am sure glad I had this set: www.sears.com/craftsman-bolt-out-6-pc-damaged-bolt-nut-remover/p-00952060000P
I was able to use the smallest socket in the kit with a wrench and easily removed the stuck, and rounded off nut. It grabbed that nut right away.
I can't say enough about having the right tools.
I was able to adjust the valves, but it is still not running good at high speed. Will replace the jet with the one suggested on this site. I have the carb disassembly down to a few minutes now days, since it is a yearly thing on these beasties.
Looks like it may have a bit of a weak spark. I can replace the CDI, coil, with a high performance set for $20 on eBay. I bought the upgrade kit and will replace them Friday or Monday. It cost so little to upgrade the components, It was easier to be a parts changer than a mechanic. Not sure why they have the auto choke in the kit, but what the heck. It looks like "the most common failures kit"
We will see what happens Monday.
It is just the yearly "China Scoot Blues".
Glad to hear it running again, if only at low speed so far.
It is a good chance to clean the plastic panels, and replace those sharp screws with appropriate fasteners and cushioned washers.
Every time I disassemble the little thing, I make it just a bit better than it was when it was new.
That is one of the fun things about these little scoots.
