I dunno, 'racer. Weismuller had to deal with Cheetah in real life. I've heard that chimp wasn't always nice, and sometimes very hard (even possibly dangerous) to work with. Older chimps can get nasty!
I'm not sure Fess had to deal with any critters.

Thats true Kat (didn't think of that) .Up here in N.E. a while ago, a chimp tore off a woman's face. The cops had to kill him to get him to stop attacking. In that case, both are just actors, but it has to go to Johnny. An adolescent male chimp could easily kill a tough man.

Hey, I think that Tarzan pic may be one of the later Tarzans, not good old Johnny. I may be wrong... Lex Barker maybe? Close enough anyway... LOL!
Nothing against Davy Crockett... Ya gotta admire a guy who kills his own hat! But... Gotta go with Johnny Weissmuller! He's been my favorite movie and TV macho man for 65 years! Talk about MACHO... He not only had to deal with "Cheetah" (and not to forget dealing with chasing a buck-nekkid Maureen O'Sullivan as "Jane" through the jungle, skinny-dipping in an era of tight censorship...) but he also had to regularly wrestle than old lion. For REAL! In a live 1960's "Tonight Show" interview, he said he hated that lion, as it would bite and claw for real (saving the make-up guy a LOT of effort making fake wounds for the rest of the movie shoot... LOL!) AND, besides that, it "smelled terrible"... His own words... HeHeHe...
He said he got the Tarzan part largely because he'd fight with the wild animals with no extra "hazardous-duty" pay. In the interview, Johnny Carson asked him if that was all that smart? He said it was more about being "employed" than being smart... Hmmm... Sounds pretty smart... Duh...
Leo (giving the Tarzan yell) in Texas
PS: He also said his adventures with that lion earned him the nickname "Claude Balz" on the set...

Kind of reminds me of the old "Honey West" TV show with Anne Francis. In the show she had a pet ocelot named Bruce, of which she said of filming with: "When the cat is in a bad mood he bites and scratches, and when he's in a good mood he bites and scratches."
