Indiana's DMV doesn't say anything about it so far. www.dmv.org/in-indiana/other-types.phpSo I still assume one needs to get all the registration, titling, etc for them. Now then this police website still has the regular information for mopeds versus scooters. Only mopeds less than 50cc with 2 hp and can't go over 25mph still have the moped classification. So unless it is a really new law change, it is the same as before.

Earlier in the year they were trying to bump it up from 25mph max to 30mph max--- I think it passed the House and not sure whatever happened after that, I never looked into it. I either read about that or saw it on local news, around spring? With that being said, there's no way the 150 part is true.

People selling scooters will say anything to make a sale. My brother took my nephew to buy a scooter a couple of months ago here in Vegas. My nephew only has a driver's permit currently, so my brother asked if he could legally drive a scooter. The dealer said he was friends with a judge who told him the law was vague enough to be successfully argued in court that they were legally a bicycle, and therefore anyone could ride with no license, helmet, or registration. I showed him the Nevada DMV website, which specifically states up to 49cc requires a class C (standard) drivers license, but no helmet or registration required. I also took the opportunity to talk him into having my nephew take the MSF course, after which my nephew immediately started asking for a bigger ride!

Definitely not a law change I've heard about - I'd say that's just a shady pseudo-dealer trying to make a buck. If anything, they're working on making the law more restrictive on scooters (sub 50cc ones at least) not less. Buyer beware doesn't begin to cover it.
