Update:
Scooter is beat to body wise. After a while of thinking about it Ive decided to pull the motor and put it on my Xtreme 50cc. the Xtreme is in slightly better shape, but has a longer frame and better brakes/tires/seat/bigger tank/and suspension. The front tire on the taotao slowly loses air so this alone will be an improvement. The Xtreme is a bit thinner body style, but its taller. I'm curious how much thats gonna affect mph.
The motor that is currently on the Xtreme will go onto the Taotao to be rebuilt and fixed up so I can have a friend ride with me. (riding alone is kinda boring)
===
Yesterday I took my little sister on the back of the taotao to go see a friend. We looked stupid as crammed on this little scoot in full riding gear (I dont ride w.o. at least a helmet and usually with gloves and jacket)
The scoot performed pretty well. Adverage speed was 30. Once we would get up to 35 it would suddenly maintain it or go up to 40. I'm thinking the variator weights are sticking. sometimes I will get going, it will get to 20 and just stick or slowly lose momentum. If I pull over, restart the scooter and take off it will easily get up to 35 again. Really weird. I'll be ordering a new performance variator in 30 days when I get some extra cash. Might also upgrade the stator.
As far as the variator goes what should I be looking for? I think I wanna go ahead and look for a slider setup. Are there any brands to absolutely avoid? or some that are great? Looking to keep it kinda cheap.
How much resistance should an exhaust have? Im thinking about welding up a new simple muffler to make the scooter louder so people hear me on these country roads. I want to put a flap on the tip that I can shut when in city limits to quiet it back down. I have a no resistance air filter, so I was thinking a non restricted exhaust would run ok? ----
Sorry for the wall of text.
