So I saw this ad on Craigslist. Honda Gyro. $300. eugene.craigslist.org/mcy/3903747503.htmlIt seems to be a fixer upper, which I'm ok with at that price. I would love to learn to repair vehicles and what not... But a quick web search shows it is a rare scooter. I'm concerned I won't be able to find parts. Should I just leave this one for a lucky enthusiast? The tags are really.... Really... Old.

Hey Skunk, I'd say check the web some, see if you can find a Honda forum with parts connections. Or just see if you can find any supplier.
And I'd check with your DMV, see what's required in re-tagging the scooter. I also noticed the last year was '92. Make sure you don't have to pay back-taxes (which I guess some states make current owners pay, which seems illegal since those years it wasn't your responsibility)
Otherwise sounds like a deal and looks like it'd be fun to drive once it's fixed up.

Yeah, I definitely have some research to do. I read that Honda used custom rims and wheels for this scoot that are not being made anymore... But one site, I saw they replaced the rims so they could use different tires. The tires are definitely a point of concern. I will have to see if there are any other hard to find parts. While looking around the web, people often use "Fun" as a word to describe what it is like to ride these... Actually, it reminds me of the old arcade game, Super Hang On. You know, the one with the sport bike you lean to control the motorcycle in the game... Only this actually moves! I'm definitely interested if this is something I can restore... I'm still looking around for more info. I am thinking of calling the guy up in the morning (Wow... It is 5am! o.o). Are there any important questions I should ask... You know, when I wake up?

Yeah, it looks like I might have to call the DMV after I talk to the guy on CraigsList. I hope he still has it... And that it doesnt require back taxes... And that parts are available These are kind of fun to watch with how those rear wheels work. Seeing so many still running on youtube makes me hopeful that there are options in place for restoration. I hope to look more in the morning.

Hmm, yeah. I would like to pay less for it... If I try less and he says he will wait for more offers, should I just offer the full 300? At this point, it will still cost less than a bicycle I was planning to get... And a scooter is waaay better. *Update* I talked with the owner over the phone. He's got a few guys coming later today to look at it but first come first served. One guy was wanting to buy it to dish it out as parts on Ebay. That would be a shame. This should be ridden, for sure. The owner says he had it running off and on. It just needs some kinks worked out. He says there's signs someone has tried to fix it that didnt know what they were doing. I'll post plenty of pics if I get it.

I'd try to haggle a little bit.
I love how the body leans in the turns while the two back tires stay fixed.

*Update* After giving it some more thought, I decided to pass. The difficulty of finding replacement parts was the dealbreaker for me. This really does look like a fun scoot. Craigslist is bound to turn up something else. If I find a non-working chinese GY6 for a good price, would that be worth it? I'm fortunate enough to have a local chinese scooter parts store in my area.

Bingo, I was just about to post that parts could be very hard to find. These scooters do have a following though, Some people hoard them just to have their own wrecking yard of parts.
