Suffering a 2009 Scwinn Valo Headache.... Engine needs a new top end. Easy job.....cause it's that ever common GY6 50cc engine. But wait...the intake manifold nuts are 10mm or so...but they are 5 point nuts...not the standard 6 point nut or bolt. It takes a special socket to take them off and for the life of me cannot find one. Google nor Ebay are of any help. Anybody ever seen these odd 5 pt fasteners? Anybody know where to get the special socket for them?... Thanks, Glenn

[replyingto=carasdad]carasdad[/replyingto]Somebody...anybody? Surely someone out there has worked on a Schwinn scoot and came across these tamper proof 5 sided ....vice standard 6 sided nuts. Nobody seems to carry a wrench or socket for them I take it? Somebody must..or how else do dealers work on Schwinn scoots.. One of you folks surely must have a resource..

I grinded one side down then used an adjustable to take my schwinn graduate 150 intake off, then replaced it with 10mm nuts

try a star socket?
It might be easier to find a ten point socket set and use that.

Maybe the 'Star' type will work...hmm 20 mile drive to the big chain hardware stores in the city...cause I know these small local hometown mom 'n pop hardware stores don't carry stuff like that. ryaanlx grind one side? I may try that.. I see you have worked on one..is it not the oddest dang nut ya ever saw?... I am not sure I would know which side to grind....maybe if I grind the pointed end off it would make the nut square?...hmmm.. To all of you who work on scoots for folks...the sad part of this all and nearly every scoot ya work on...when it comes time to pay..you don't charge for the things like that which caused a work stoppage..a work around...or hours of intense or precision work. Yet the customers still complain about how much you charge for any repair.?
