Take your average run of the mill car and try to double its performance. A basic 50 cc scooter is no different except that you can double the performance for little money compared to a full blown drag car which is 100s of thousands of dollars!. Even putting 10k into a car will marginally increase its performance. Amazing little vehicles we have here from what i have been reading. Even though I have slightly increased mine I have only spent about 100 bucks! perf variators, weights, springs etc not much more and on the list down the road.
I need to learn concepts so I mod smartly.

Though doubling the performance of a 50 still doesn't touch the performance of a mid 80's Honda Civic...

Hey I agree with you under a grand in a scooter can double the performance, speed, weight, and handling. The main factor is the gas savings.
Cars cost alot more in parts, customizing CPU and everything else above.
Race cars cost triple in prices compared to making a race scooter.
If I ever run into some money to buy good tools and do a ground up build meaning everything from the piston rod to the tires I will do it on a scooter over a car. The miles per gallon just pay off so much over a motorcycle and I dont need the major speed.

I wasn't interested in tinkering until I got a motorcycle. Everything is so much more accessible on a motorcycle (compared to a car).

Still cant double the performance. Actually I can, and so could anyone else on this forum. I took a 1992 Honda Accord ("125hp" from factory - 110hp realistically) and bolted on OEM turbo parts (manifold, turbo, BOV) from an early 's DSM (direct bolt on), and pushed out 240hp after some dedicated tuning. I had a $1000 car with $200 worth of junkyard parts that would outrun most cars at the track. These were all factory parts that have proven to be quite reliable. Last I heard from the guy who bought it, the only money he's spent on it was making it pretty with a nice paint job, wheels, etc. He said he hasn't had to deal with anything due to mechanical failure and it's been at least 10k miles or more.
