Yesterday my scoot wouldn't crank with the electric start. It'd just make a kind of clicking noise. So I tried to kick start it and it cranked right up. After driving for a while thinking I was recharging my battery, I tried to start it again. same thing; kickstart only. So I drove down to my dealer and told them I thought I had a dead battery, because that's what I assumed it was. They take it into the back and started working on it. About 15 minutes later the mechanic comes up to the front to tell me the battery seems fine, but my voltage regulator wasn't working at all so my battery isn't charging. They didn't have the right model regulator in stock and are going to order me a new one Monday, which should arrive Wednesday or Thursday.
I'm just curious what can cause the voltage regulator to fail. My scooter is only 6 months old. Is this a precursor to more electrical problems to come down the road? I am planning on getting a new non-chinese scooter sometime in the next couple of months because of exactly this type of thing.
