[replyingto=brandjur]brandjur[/replyingto]That is exactly true, mine also only runs with the original The principal of how a cdi works is universal. the way manufacturers go about doing it may vary. I have the same problem with my Jonway, It only works with the original cdi. I would love an explanation of that from someone

not neccesarily, I bought a new jonway YY50QT30,It was restricted to 35 MPH. and has an AC cdi. I bought an unrestricted cdi, installed it, and nothing, I put in the cdi from my baja sc50, and nothing, AS you said, A bad cdi. so I tried another new one. Meantime, I traced all the wires, and found that one wire from the TWO wire plug went to a sensor on the clutch (the restrictor) I disconnected it and it works great. However it will not work with an aftermarket cdi. Makes no sense. I have no idea what jonway did there. All proves my point, the theory of how many wires on each plug tells you what>>>>>>>> it is? The sensor more than likely went to the AC feed loop. The CDI controls when the spark plug fires. A restricted CDI simply stops firing once a pre-set engine rpm is reached. Without spark, the engine slows to below the "rev limit" and the CDI resumes providing current. An unrestricted CDI does not stop providing current no matter how high the engine rpms go. You are only limited by the engine itself. On some scooters there is a sensor fitted to the variator cover that detects the rpm of the engine. Once the revs reach a certain limit, the CDI unit cuts down the spark, reducing power. Sometimes rather than buying a new CDI, cut the wires from this sensor and see if it does the trick, if not then bypass the sensor and go directly from the stator to the CDI. Also the reason the DC CDI is larger is because it contains a DC to AC transformer. Also the Jonway YY50QT30 comes with the choice of 2 or 4 stroke, which is yours? BTW in case any don't know YOU CAN NOT use a 2-stroke CDI on a 4-stroke engine, reason is the timing is different. The Baja sc50 is a 4-stroke. www.bajamotorsports.com/system/documents/63_OWNERS_MANUAL_-_SC50_-_Sun_City_50cc_Scooter_Owners_Manual_VIN_prefix_LAWA_.pdfAlso it's common for suppliers to tell you their performance CDI is plug and play and will work on all Scooters, all a bunch of hogwash. Here is the 5-pin AC type CDI with a totally different plug set up: Common 6-pin AC type CDI: Take note of the two grounds I mentioned. Again one has to see what they have by checking it and then there is no doubt. JR

Hi JR, I am not questioning you at all. I agree with you. I appreciate your feedback and help. I already did the battery test and the engine keeps on running while disconnecting the battery. The problem I have now is I do have an NCY performance AC CDI as well as an AC CDI from a newer 2012 Peace scooter 50cc TPGS-811. Mine is a 2009 MC-17 50cc. The AC CDIs from NCY and from the Peace scooter does not start the engine. Only my original CDI starts the engine. The only reasons I mentioned the DC is because Jeremy at Enviromoto said the NCY CDI was not defective and that I have a DC CDI. So, I went and purchased a DC CDI, against my own belief. So, unfortunately the saga does continue as I already have 2 other AC CDIs (see pic) and the engine doesn't start with them plugged in. When I switch back to the original CDI after trying the 2 other AC CDIs, the original CDI fires the engine right up on the 2nd turnover. Again I see no saga? The "other" CDI's either: are wrong voltage bad and no good to start with (very common to happen) Pin configuration is not plug and play with scooter OEM system are for a different engine 2T Vs 4T By your picture and your test WE KNOW for sure what your CDI is so if you insist on having a performance CDI then use the diagram of the common CDI that I put a image of with the two grounding points and tell the seller what you have. Make them assure you they have a plug and play CDI or can tell you what color the wires on their CDI go to so you can make sure it's a match. JR

JR,
Please relax. After doing a lot of research, I have run into a situation and that is why I sought help from this message board.
This is my "saga" as I am dealing with my scooter issues. It isn't over for me and I was merely asking for any guidance, help, or experience from others. One reason I am concerned is that if ever my original CDI quits, then it won't start with a replacement CDI. I am just trying to figure it out. If it helps someone else out in the future, at least it will be archived.
I do know the other factory CDI is working as it worked on the other scooter. However, it does not work on mine. All the CDIs are for 4t.
I will go to Jeremy Hall at Enviromoto and ask him about the CDI wiring pins/colors. Last time I emailed him he was very defensive of his non-return policy. He also tried to lead me down a road of believing I was wrong in thinking it was an AC CDI. That lead me to waste more money and purchase a DC unit.
Thank you for your help, but please, let's keep this light. One of the reasons why my initial post was long is to reassure that I was trying to be thorough with my homework and my wrenching.

[replyingto=jr]JR[/replyingto]Thanks ,You're right. The jonway is a four stroke. Yhe baja, however is One of those Quingjang motors with a short case, long cover. After the geniuses at baja discontinued all the parts for the thing, I put a long case in it . and changed the front and rear to 12'. It's now retired. 16000 miles. The QJ qmb139 wasn't bad to me,Just had a hard time with that outboard bearing in the cvt cover.

I appreciate your help. Unfortunately, I don't have the Peace scooter with me, other wise I was going to look at its wiring. Also, Jeremy hasn't emailed me back.
