Hi scoot-ers!
I've read through the UM Xpeed 250 thread on the old website and thought I'd start a fresh thread for those of us scooting around on this fabulous ride!! The tips and info there were pretty insightful.
I'd love some help with the following problem:
1) Scooter would not start up after having ridden to destination with no problem. Assumed the problem was the rectifier (alternator on a car) since that was the problem the last time. Replaced the rectifier. Scooter would not start.
2) Had to push start button 3-5 times to get scooter to start. It wouldn't always "turn over". After replacing the rectifier - lights came on weakly, but no sound at all when I hit the starter. I charged the battery completely with attached tender and still the same. I read the other thread so decided to replace the rear light with an led light then changed the battery to a 12V BS AGM battery (turns out, the old one was a 12V AGM battery so wasted money). I turned the ignition key and I knew I would be successful when I hit the start button, lights were on bright, new LED rear light looked great, hit the starter button - NOTHING! No sound, no choking, nothing at all. Lights didn't seem to dim while I was pressing starter button. I was sad.
3) I decided that maybe I would check the tip-over switch which possibly got tipped over when I removed the seat compartment to get to the rectifier. Then I would possibly change the starter relay/solenoid if that doesn't do it.
Someone please help!! It's beautiful outside! I'm not a mechanic. I just want to ride. Has anyone faced this before? What did you do? Did I mention I'm not a mechanic? I've had a little fun actually figuring out how to replace parts though. I don't mind diving into it - but I don't have the appropriate tools so it's not as much fun as it could be I suppose.
I'm dying! Spring is finally here and my scoot is still sitting in storage! :-(
I'm open to suggestions...

Mine had to be sent back to get the computer re-flashed. That was high idle issue. But the charging issue was the first problem I had with it. Died the day I brought it home brand new from the dealership. Rectifier was the issue. I would check fuses first. Then wires. Then starter. Make sure all wires are secure.

Thanks biggroovy!
I almost forgot to check the fuses. I'll do that and check the wires also.
I don't object to more labor-intensive suggestions just because I'm not a mechanic so if others have suggestions, let 'em fly! Just please be sure to give me details, directions, specifics, etc. because I enjoy trying to fix things myself.
I'll be in Birmingham in a few weeks - how's the weather down there?
