I recently acquired a 2008 Sym RV250 in great shape. I had to drain all of the gas and cleaned the carburetor. It fires up great. Idles fine. I think it accelerates well enough as I have nothing to compare it to. Everything is stock on this scooter.
My issue is it won't go faster than 55mph. It runs at 5.5k rpms at this speed. I may get 60 with the assist of a hill. It is said that these scooters can go 70+. The bike has a little over 5500 miles on it.
What could be my issue? I just adjusted the valves, and the intake side was tight. That fixed a cold idle issue, but no other change. The rollers don't have flat spots. The variator face looks a bit grooved.

It sounds like you might have rollers that are too light.

I am getting a GPS confirmed top speed of 78mph at 8500rpm, which reads on my speedometer.
