Ok I have a Benzhou 50cc 2008 scooter. Picked it up for practically nothing so I figured I would give it a go. Guy said it starts but dies. I took the carb apart and it was green and nasty inside. I decided just to get a carb rather then fight with this crusty mess. Put the new carb on and nothing. I am getting fuel to the carb. If I shoot it with starting fluid it will run long enoug usually to burn off the fluid then die. Occasionally it would run longer then what I would consider burning off the fluid. I haven't tried to adjust the valves yet as I see this is a big issue with these. It seems odd that it would not run off of the carb but would with starting fluid. But this is my first time dealing with a scooter . It seems all these small engines have their own issues. Any insight would be great. Thank you.

Ok. Well I got it running. I adjusted the valves and she started up . Although it seems to want to idle fairly high. Not high enough to engage forward motion but it just seems high. I tried adjusting the idle via the idle screw on the carb but it has little or no effect. But it does start and drive so I guess that's half the battle.

Get a new intake manifold. There's likely a cracked in yours letting air in and making it idle weird.
