Hi all - I’m looking at a Honda Reflex on Craigslist with 6000 miles, a new fuel pump, fuel filter and air filter, but “need head gasket”. I have not yet seen it in person.
I am very inexperienced when it comes to motorcycle engines but it seems odd to me that a Honda engine with 6K miles would have a bad head gasket. What are the odds that it really it has a bad head gasket rather than some other problem that has been misdiagnosed as a bad head gasket? If it is a bad head gasket, how big of a job is it to replace one? I’d probably have a mechanic do it rather than doing it myself.
Thanks!

well if the head is going to come off you may as well do the valves and check the cylinder for scoring while you're in there. That would take care of most problems that could resemble a bad head gasket.

Do I need to worry about something like a cracked block?

Not really no, the block is separate from the cylinder. It does not have to deal with the heat cycling of a cylinder in block engine.
