Definitely Thunder Road, I remember seeing it as a kid and it was macho.

Definitely Thunder Road... Robert's son played his little brother, and Mitchum was at his best in this low-budget cult classic which he was mostly responsible for. Corny, but in a factual sense, portraying the plight of the long-term moonshiners with no other way to get by. And Keeley Smith was great as his gal-friend!
Not enough focus on the shine-runner cars, but great nitty-gritty, unwashed red-neck action! I watch it every time it comes on!
