All righty, so some of you read that I was going to the state fair. And that there was a tractor pull. And encouraged me to see it. All I can say is BOY HOWDY! Which coughed out more smoke, red or green?

Somehow they got one of the haulers involved-- The announcer called our attention to the plate in his window--this was a street-legal semi. I guess one of the drivers decided to pit his cab against the regulars, unhitched the trailer, and lined up. I don't know how much weight they loaded, but he pulled it farther than any of the competitors!

Sounds like you had fun and that's what it's all about.

Then came the outlaw class. I liked this guy's design, with the engines stacked and a good solid middle, rather than the long skinny middles of most of them. However, I thought this one was the neatest-- He used a helicopter jet engine. It sounded like a turbine. Surprisingly quiet, especially after all the ruckus of the regular engines. Sadly, a belt went out partway through and killed his run.

And the last outlaw, just for Leo-- Now THAT'S a real Hot Rod Lincoln!

So what did I think of my first tractor pull? LOUD! Y'alles weren't kidding when you told me that. Not only LOUD, but VERY VERY LOUD!!!!!!!! One was so loud it vibrated the concrete grandstand. The announcer afterwards asked if any of us felt that through our feet. We raised our hands. He told us, "Folks, you just enjoyed a $200,000 vibrator!" And it was crazy! And exciting! And crazy fun! My heart was still pounding a good half-hour after I left! Gosh I'm so glad I went!

And for those curious how my stuff did-- My "fancy feet" entry won second. These are for-real shoes that Mom wears, not like the other entries that are only for show/display. And my Pooch costume won first! I was a bit sad she didn't do better, but apparently the costume class (among some others) only gets to compete against itself and doesn't get to proceed up to compete against the other classes for the higher prizes. A bit disappointing that they have that rule, but I suppose there's a reason for it. Maybe the blue-ribbon costumes kept winning everything, so they decided that was it. Don't know. The better thing for me was that they moved her from towards the back, to just inside the front doors. And everyone really enjoyed her there! Kids all wanted their pics with her, and folks marveled at her. She got lots of attention from everyone. Even the short time I was there, a lot of people were commenting about her. That was the best, that so many people found such enjoyment seeing her!

Sadly, I never did see anything else. No pig races, no chicken bath, nothing but the two buildings with their entries, vendors, and the tractor pull. Still, I had a blast at the fair! I want to go again some year, maybe go Sat and Sun and spend two nights so I can see lots more of everything! Crazy loud fun! >'Kat

Kool shoes, Kat. I didn't realize that one of our members had broken into the fashion design world. I went to an outdoor tractor pull a while back and had a blast. Its harder to find them now. Expensive hobby for the competitors.

Kat,
Thanks for leading me to the thread! Yeah, that Hot Rod Lincoln is swell!
Congrats on your winning entries too! Love those shoes... And of course, the pooch!
Thanks for a great post!

PS: Years ago, at the beginning of the tractor-pull craze I went to an INDOOR meet in Chicago. I can't even begin to describe what THAT sounded like... LOL!

And thanks 'bender and UncaLeo re: the shoes. Mom loves wearing them on Memorial Day and Fourth of July. But that's the extent of my fashion designing. Well, that and making a fur costume....
Say UndaLeo, wanna drive wearing Pooch? I bet you'd have better vision than in that old bunny costume!

A couple more pics of Pooch-- This was at the Humane Society's benefit art auction. The event photographer asked to take this lady's picture. She answered, "Only if Pooch is in it with me!" Of course Pooch will, that's why she was there to make the guests happy and hopefully bid higher on the art. This was me and Mom at the JoCo fair. You can tell how thrilled she was that I wanted her in a pic, too. If you're curious, you see out the mouth. That was the hardest part, designing it so the bottom jaw moves yet could still mostly close. I studied furries costumes, but I hated the unrealistic hump and the downward angle those heads all have. Those masks, you see out the tear ducts which makes the face too low for our tall round heads (dogs' heads of course being shorter and flatter) So whaddaya say, UncaLeo? Wanna Pooch the Mouse? >'Kat

Kat,
You DO have a knack for design!
ANYTHING would be better than that bunny head! The eyes were about 8" apart. You could only look out of one at a time... and the eyes were covered with black screen with eyeballs painted on them. I wouldn't even attempt riding a bicycle in that thing today! Add to that, I had two to six little rugrats on the front fender, the saddlebags, gas tank, rear fender... my lap... crawling up my back... putting little hands over the eyes squealing "peekaboo"... And once in a while one of their lean and leggy moms on my lap to "supervise"... OK, cut me some slack... I WAS playing a RABBIT... LOL
I don't even want to think what litigation lizards would do to me and my agency TODAY... LOLOLOL!
You might want to do more designing! Look at Daniel on "American Pickers". Her role there is just the tip of her iceberg. She has design shops with her own "Danny Diesel" stuff in several places, making a really good income from her women's outfits inspired by vintage burlesque and gothic-creepy. You wouldn't have to cover yourself with tattoos though...
After 7 seasons of troublefree riding, "Minnie Mouse's" starter-relay/solenoid went south. So she's grounded until I find time to install the new one my dealer got me. Easy fix, but I'm mighty busy taking care of the missus right now... and the weather is crummy anyway. I'll get it done soon. I do miss riding! Guess I'll slap a new battery in while she's apart. Seven years on a battery is pushing the envelope. One real gripe I have about twist-n'-go scooters is that they have absolutely NO way of starting the motor if the electric starter craps out.
Spent too much time at the dealer lately. Those new scoots are NICE... even SMELL nice... But PRICEY! And none really have the features I love about old Minnie. Guess she's got a "forever home" here with the Old Chopper Guy!
Ride safe!
Leo
