Do ya' feel lucky, punk? Well, do ya' ?
I wish I could quote all the gloriousness about the Magnum before that line, but I never can remember it. I just remember something about it'll blow your head clean off.

Both are men speak softly but pack a big punch. Macho personified. Its very difficult to vote against "The DI", but I must go along with dirty Harry. "I know what you're thinking. 'Did he fire six shots or only five'? Well to tell you the truth, in all this excitement, i kind of lost track myself. But being that this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel lucky?' Well do ya, punk? "

Wow, A tough one! I'm a BIG fan of BOTH.I guess I've seen all the Dirty Harry movies, and all the Dragnet/Badge 714 TV shows and movies. Considering everything both stand for in their respective characters, I vote for Joe Friday by a slim margin. He got me hooked back in 1951. I was five, and became a major fan of Friday's no-nonsense, "everything is black and white with NO gray areas" law and order demeanor. He reminded me a little of my Dad."Dirty Harry" has the same aura about him, but always "broke the rules" which wouldn't work in the real life police community. Joe Friday played by the rules, and in the process made chain-smokers out of thousands of adoring fans... LOL! Oh well, in the fifties who knew tobacco wasn't a health food? Hey, if ya' can't kill 'em with hot lead, kill 'em with Camels! I've always been a fan of the S&W .44 Magnum. Had a couple of 'em over the years. Good shooters, but today's factory ammo is loaded to WAY less power than the original1960's Dirty Harry era. Ruger single-actions could digest that ammo all day long, but the old S&W wheelguns couldn't stand up to the pressures the early ammo generated. My first one shot loose after only 200 rounds! However, Friday had no problem dispatching miscreants with his diminutive 2" .38... Good marksmanship is always macho!Leo (keep your powder dry, and a scowl on yer' puss) in Texas

That's the quote, 'bender! I dunno, Leo. I never could get into Dragnet. Gave it several chances growing up but just didn't grab me. I suppose it's on one of those secondary digital channels like MeTV now, and I should watch it again. And I'll end up really liking it. Like All in the Family--could not stand it growing up even though it was one of Mom's faves. But now if she has it on, I start watching and enjoying the show. But Dirty Harry. I enjoyed those movies from the start. No getting older to appreciate them. So I still say Harry is machoier. (and darn that Clint Eastwood for cheating on us and making stuff like Bridges of Madison Co Used to be, if it had Clint you KNEW it would be a grand 2ish hours!)

When Dragnet was starting on the tele, you could hear that big brass band intro music all over the neighborhood. Then Jack Webb said "Los Angeles. A city of three million people...". This kid from a town of 1000 people couldn't resist watching.
