I recently was riding down the highway on my 09 Linhai Aeolus 260 Classic Scooter, and noticed that my rear wheel started making a clanking noise during turns.
Well wouldn't you know...the rear wheel axle nut and spacer had fallen off a while back, and being loose, it had worn down the brake pads. Rode it straight home.
I started looking around the garage and didn't find anything that would fit.
I looked over among my used barely-good Honda Civic parts and found a nut that fit. Not just any nut. It went on tight and stayed tight. Then I remembered.. I had taken the steering wheel off and the Honda HolyBook says to never re-use the lock nut that holds it to the steering column. But it doesn't look like any lock nut I had seen. It looks like a regular common nut.
As it turns out, the nut is specially made of softer metal and is made to stay tight and never back itself off. So, I got a couple of thick split washers (to use in place of the spacer) and tightened the nut down. I took it off a few times, once to change the tire, new brake pads, etc.. It stays tight and doesn't damage the threads on the axle.
TL:DR -
You can probably replace your 150-300cc scooter's wheel / axle / spindle? nut with this one and never worry about the rear wheel ever coming loose again. It looks like a normal 14mm nut(I still don't know the thread size) and takes a 19mm socket.
Honda part# 90163-S04-000 about $4 at your local dealer.
Now, if anyone can point me to where I can get the right spacer, it would be much appreciated. I think it needs to be at least 5mm thick.
