I recently removed an aftermarket EFI and went back to carburetor... The EFI had an electric fuel pump of which when I installed, removed the vacuum petcock and installed a fuel shut of valve.
Now that I am using a carb I have the fuel line connected directly to the carb. Everything seems fine except when increasing throttle under load I feel a surging or pulsing. The carb i put on has a #105 main jet which I suspect is too small (and planning on a #115 or #120), but I am wondering if the absence of the fuel pump is really the culprit. I always thought is what just a safety device that stops fuel flow when the engine is not running.
As a side note: this scooter also has a performance exhaust on it, as the OEM muffler broke and could not find an oem replacement. With the EFI the scooter always ran a little on the rich side.
Any input would be greatly appreciated...

you either have gas or not. the vacuum crap is just that, crap. having a manual shut-off is plenty, if no shut-off, ok too. the idea is that if the float does not do its job and stop the incoming fuel from continuing to flow (flooding it and even just running over) when the float bowl is full one of the 2 will stop it, vacuum = automatically if not running, manual = when you shut it off. if the float needle is doing its job neither (just leave the manual in the on .) is needed day to day. i guess i seem to be rambling, but these are not your problem.
