there are 2 types of locking mechanisms i know of.
direct and cable.
the direct kind is like the deadbolt on your house, the key operates it directly.
the cable kind has the key pulling on a cable attached to the lock.
if you can access the cable then you might be able to pull the lock open.
pressing down on the seat, like mentioned above, might help.
to disable this type of lock, remove the spring that holds the jaws closed to a position that holds them open.
