Scamping Report October 2013
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the
shadow of death, I will fear no evil...
Psalms 23:4
Seem like the right thought for scootering
"Death Valley".
Yes, I can afford a larger scooter.
Yes, I can ride a motorcycle.
Yes, I can buy car.
But no, I choose my 49cc.
Because it truly is about the ride.
Facts:
4 days & Nights
520 Miles 2 States
Fuel used 5.7 Gallons
4 Nights in a tent ( I might be getting to old for this )
Left work late got a 6:00 pm start. Didn't make it
to Pahrump till 10:00 pm. 4 hours for 65 mile ride.
Slow ride over the summit, but worth it.
If possible try to find a RV Park off the main highway,
it make for a better visit.
Next stop Shoshonee CA. Straight shot from Pahrump 60 miles.
But took the long way around, 100 miles.
Found the Pearly Gates on the way too Death Valley.
But they were closed. Not a good sign.
What happen at the Christmas Tree Farm after Christmas?
Not a pretty site.
Holy Cow, I'm at Stateline!!!
or I'm just waiting for the cows to come home.
Just on the southend of Death Valley Junction.
Had to include a visit to a cemetary. ( Yes, real )
Said a prayer for the families and continue on.
At home in Shoshonee, CA
Shoshonee RV Park is the best tent friendly park I have used yet.
Real tent site with privacy wall on the back side bench
and writing table. Picnic table at each site. Good grass.
Clean restrooms, library and hot springs feed pool.
Friday Morning time to head to Death Valley.
This is the road I'm due to return from DV.
When I went thru DV Juntion on Thurday this Cafe seem to be
out of business and when I went by on friday I saw
someone walking around. So I stop to see and as I was
approaching to front door they turn to open sign over.
Went inside and ask about yesterday. They told me that
they close all summer and today is the first day of their
winter season and the Opera House opens this weekend.
Seems there is no A/C in DV Junction.
Didn't mean to scare anyone.
Before enter Death Valley, time for.
Scooter Psalms
The Lord is my guide
I shall need no other
He leads me thru back roads
He give me rest in quiet places
He refreshes me on my ride
Even thou I ride thru Death Valley
I will not fear
Knowledge he gives
And the tools I carry
give me peace
He finds me good road friends
That watches over me on my ride
Food and drink he finds me
Surely, goodness and mercy
will be with all my rides
Yes I try, No I did not make it.
Furnice Creek 200 ft below sea leval.
Very develope tourist sight, nice to see.
Now with the exit highway closed after Badwater.
I had to make a choose. A 60 mile round trip too
Badwater to see the salt flats.
or
Sometimes in life you need to make the tuff choices.
Pleasant ride back to Shoshone for a second night.
Seems like you might get tried of the open spaces,
but not so.
Start of Satuday to Nipton CA thru Baker, Kelso, Cima
When is a paved road no longer a paved road? On the
way to Kelso. You can travel miles without seeing a car in
either direction. This is not a tourist road.
Kelso a nice surprise.
Cima I don't think the beer is as cold as they say.
Lunch and dinner on the road.
I can go on and on but it doesn't get any better than this.
I truly hope you all can enjoy your ride as much as I do.
God Bless and Safe Riding to All
( PS grammer and spelling doesn't count because it truly
is about the ride )
