Anybody running without a base gasket? I want a little more compression. Any other ideas?

Have you done a compression check to see where your engine is to begin with ?

Pulling the base gasket and just using a bead of rtv is a common practice. Also running ncy flat SS valves will help bump up compression. Be careful though too much compression will cause detonation without proper octane fuel.

DX And compression above 180 can cause other damage to the engine, causing crank failure, damage to the piston... If your wanting more compression for more power it's better to just do a bbk.. |

I ran with only one base gasket with my bbk for a while and then I put another on bc the electric start did not work but it wore down my piston alot, so I would reccomend two base gaskets with a bbk and one stock.

Last time I checked I think it was around 150 to 160 I want to be at 180 I cannot find a thinner head gasket so I thought about running without a base gasket

I wouldn't be afraid to just run rtv. Area 808 garage does it to bump up compression.

My wife`s VIP is running with 50mm bbk, cam, race cdi, coil, exhaust and no base gasket, I even slotted the magnetic pickup and advanced the timing on it..it runs pretty strong, stays right with my Aprilia SR50, it even out pulls it from a standing start

Here what I'm thinking
If you choose to use rtv instead of a base gasket watch it closely, a 139 only has 750 mi of oil, so when your riding any leak will be a serious one... And if one developed while your riding, you may not be aware of it until it's too late, your engine is out of oil, and your out along the roadside... If your going to use Rtv sealant make sure it's a quality one..

WHAT LARRY SAID!!..He and I have pistons and cranks to prove the massive destruction from running your compression too high! See the pic of the pistion? It used to be a small dome top..now look what compression...excess heat from it..and detonation from the compression caused. From a small top..to a 4mm deep concave piston now. Engine wouldn't even run anymore.. Attachments:

More pep is ok and i do understand why you would want it... IMHO I would base my risk taking on the type of driving I'm doing.. Just around town is not a big deal if you break down or develop an oil leak, but if you are driving 20 or more miles one way. I would think about this carefully... I'm not trying to discourage you.. Simply giving you other things to think about before you make your decision..

make sure it is smooth, no deep scratches, clean and oil free, put a thin layer on both parts and you will be good to go, I run  octane in them both, not sure if I need t as I do not notice and rattling from detonation |
