So I've been doing test speed runs with the "My Tracks" app from google and I've noticed that my top speed on flat and top speed downhill are almost the same. I get 44.93mph on flats and 45.65 downhill. Does this mean that my variator is maxxed out? I simply don't think there's a way to squeeze more speed out of my machine other than buying a new variator.  So which affordable variator do you recommend? How does Koso compare to the rest of the variators out there? |

will have to go up two sizes on your weights though, if you like your weight set up now, the koso seems to wind out further giving you higher top end speed

You still won't gain any top speed, just acceleration. You have hit your max for your current gearing, even with a "performance" variator your overall gear ratio and max RPM stays the same.
Get a new gear set if you want speed or just get a 150cc scoot.

only way to increase top speed is increase RPMs or change gearing. im sure you know which is safer....

See, I thought a wider variator faceplate meant a slight increase in speed. Right now I can go to the bank, but I need 1mph increase to be safe. Just looking for one more mph and I'm hoping the koso variator can deliver this. (Yeah, I'm OCD  ) In any case I plan on upgearing soon anyway just so I can hit extremely high speeds and hopefully won't have to go WOT as much (I'm only doing WOT 10-15 seconds at a time during the break in period, but I could use some faster acceleration and higher mid range top end). As soon as I figure out how to install gears I'm gonna order me some |

[replyingto=hank]hank[/replyingto]I've been looking at those dr. pulley variators for a long time now and I deeply want to get one, but the price is a little steep at $100. I might save up for one in the future, but right now that's over a third of my budget. I'm certainly afraid of getting a used dr. pulley variator, so new is my only option.
I'm hoping the Koso variator is a bit better than my stock variator, though I know it can't compare to the quality of Dr. Pulley. Especially if my sliders are any indication of their quality. I couldn't believe how spot on the weights were!
Thanks for the suggestion, Hank! It was actually in my plans to get a dr. pulley variator some day, for now my $22 koso should hold me over until that day though.
I'll go with the option of better gears. By the way, Kaymo, the engine is a AF05E. Isn't that the Honda Aero?

Question,,
Do those Kosco Variators come with a fan also,,or do you use your original fan/outside pulley,,I cant see one??
