Sounds cool. I have not been to Canton in decades. I used to drive through there on the way to Jasper, Helen and Amicalola Falls.

I remember watching Chuck Berry on the TV for the first time as a youngster and thinking, "Who is this dude from the 50s that plays guitar like the Rolling Stones?". I later found out that Keith Richards used many of Chuck's licks and the pitch/tone of his guitar was very similar. Rest well Chuck. The world will not be the same without you.

KTMs are expensive motorcycles, but it appears that they are putting much of their profits into R&D. -They will be selling a fuel injected two stroke enduro in the US by the end of 2017. Fuel economy is said to increase and emissions decrease dramatically. -If successful, we may once again be buying big, new two stroke bikes like the Yamaha RDs and Kawasaki H triples on the street. Details at the link. newatlas.com/ktm-two-stroke-direct-injection-enduro/48457/

You are a skilled rider W650, that can manipulate the throttle and brakes by feel, sound and experience. -New riders do not have that skill and experience and some will never acquire it. They just are not wired for it. -Guys like me, that have been riding on and off road since the 70s may not benefit from the gadgetry, but inexperienced riders will. Yes, there is more maintenance involved with the gadgets, like annual brake fluid flushes. -Will having traction control and anti-lock brakes prevent new riders from acquiring the skills? That's a whole new debate.

You are mostly correct, Kat. The best weapons of the PT boat were speed and maneuverability according to Wikipedia. They were so light for their size, that the ride was very uncomfortable and many suffered structural failures of the hull at higher speeds. The early PT boats had a terrible reputation because their torpedos were poorly made. When the torpedo designs improved, the PT boats became much more effective and were called devil boats by the Japanese. I would not challenge the Bismark with a PT boat, though.

I have no plans to ride out a hurricane. (My uncle rode out Hurricane Frederick in the powder magazine at Ft Morgan) . I will hitch up the RV an drive inland.

When I moved to a Crystal beach, a coastal town of under 800 people late last year, it did not appear to be a good place to ride a scooter. A highway ran through the center of town with only a couple of traffic lights to slow the traffic and a lot of non-connected streets that dead end at the water branched from it. Boy was I wrong! -It is legal to travel the nice broad beach on motorized vehicles for almost 30 miles. The beach is the “highway” for locals in their golf carts, quads and most any vehicle. -Many city streets and county roads allow you to drive directly onto the beach, which also allows the local slow-movers the ability to go to stores, restaurants and other local destinations without getting onto the highway. You can get around this town just fine on a 50cc scoot, but I have a 125. -I know we will probably lose the privilege of driving on the beach one day, especially if we abuse it, but I sure am taking advantage of it now.

Saw The Shack. I was very bored but my wife liked it. I thought it was very slow and very depressing. I slept for a half hour or so during the film. Perhaps I'm just too much of a Philistine to appreciate this movie.

Does Maggie just sit in your lap, you do you use some kind of harness or restraint? My dog would be trying to jump off to chase birds and most everything else.

The seat-forward position is ok in town, for maneuverability. On the open road, I'd much rather have a variety foot and seat position options to avoid cramps. My long flat seat works really well.

The complicated valve adjustment on the SMAX would be acceptable if I am just a weekend rider. If You commute daily, I would get something with a simpler, air cooled engine for easier maintenance.
