... 'post your last purchase' ... HAVE to post a picture.... My scooter is a shopping cart. Last purchase was 2 small zucchini, small egg plant, white onions, roma tomato, (apples, bananas, Mexican pastries,) mushrooms, and a loaf or french bread. Already had the chicken, peppers, etc.. Picture? What it became, but an older picture:

... 1. Since it's over 150cc do I need to get a motorcycle license? 2. Helmet or no? 3. Insurance - how much am I looking at? 4. The electric start doesn't work. I assume this is a common problem. Should I worry about fixing it or is the kickstart ok? Any other tips? See Texas Law: www.statutes.legis.state.tx.us/There is no such thing as a "scooter" -- your scooter is a motorcycle. You need a motorcycle driver's license or endorsement. You legally are required to wear a motorcycle helmet, unless you are 21 years of older and have health insurance. Insurance costs depend on where, miles, your age, years you have been licensed and riding.

I think it will be very handy for running just under WOT in the Interstate on a 1.5 hour run.

You want the big black 1/4" wrap-ties that the Telephone Company guy use. Hey! I'm an ex-Telephone Company guy! I went and checked in the garage on in the telephone stuff box.... oops.... all out. Scoot over to Lowes.... just little 1/8" wrap-ties. Okay, ask one of my Telephone Company type guys that are still working. . . . . Wait a minute... I thought telephone vans were as common as fleas but I couldn't see anyone running around.
Whatever. Next time I see one I'll ask if he could "accidently" drop one. You can do the same.

I use a lot of gear I already had for use with larger bikes.
What do you use, and what type: Helmet - of course, but what type? Eye? Jacket? Gloves? Boots, or shoes? Anything else?
You should ignore others, Ride Your Own Ride.
It is NOT "helmet of course" -- I wear the lightest DOT helmet I can find, and only because of the law.
Eye protection is only needed at 30+ mph, and I am good up to 45 mph if close one eye and angle my schnozzle to block the wind for the other. Jacket and gloves is only needed cool weather. For 41 years I wear black denim trousers and t-shirts at work, I am retired and wear lightweight golf trousers and Hawaiian shirts. At work and on my motorcycle I wore cowboy boots on the pegs, but retired and on the Scooter I wear Florsheim Penny Loafers.
However, I started riding on pedal bikes in 1949 and I have never needed to use "protection." I do not suggest that others ride as I ride. I do not like others telling me I should ride like they ride. (Especially when they want me to crash like they do!)

.... It is NOT legal to ride a bike of less than 150cc on this road, but I have never been stopped. It IS legal to ride bicycles on the shoulder. I wish it were also legal to ride 50cc pedal mopeds on the shoulder as well What most people know is wrong. On any Freeway or Interstate a 50cc moped is legal if a bicycle is also legal. leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/codes_displaySection.xhtml?lawCode=VEH§ionNum=21960.
21960(a) The Department of Transportation ... may prohibit or restrict the use of the freeways, expressways, or any portion thereof by pedestrians, bicycles or other nonmotorized traffic or by any person operating a motor-driven cycle, motorized bicycle, or motorized scooter.... (b) The prohibitory regulation authorized by subdivision (a) shall be effective when appropriate signs giving notice thereof are erected upon any freeway or expressway and the approaches thereto..... Hence, unless you pass the sign: or You are legal.
In California, a motor-driven cycle is an under 150cc. In Arizona a motor-driven cycle is 5 bhp or less. It is up to you to know the definition of the motor-driven cycle and if it is legal or not on whatever highway in whatever State you are in.

Been there, done it, have the zipper (open heart operation.) Nothing to do, food is bland -- definitely NOT a cruise. Forget getting "well" -- just get out of the hospital. Preferably alive and back on the scooter.

I only connect a charger if I forget to turn off the lights after stopping.
My Savage 650 was my commuter, under 4 miles one way. If the bike starts easy the battery will be recharged in just a few minutes of riding. My Vespa is my shopping cart and usually the runs are under 3 miles between stops.
If you don't ride that much, a standard battery should hold a charge for two weeks, an AGM battery should be able to start the bike after three months.
If a battery is weak, needs a battery tender, it needs replacement.

No matter, I'll bet the little nippers are LOVING the trip! And you thought those saddlebags were useless once the covers got lost... LOL! I was about the same age when my dad put me on his gas tank for a short ride... on his Police Servicar... in the alley behind the houses so no one will me us. Since he rode a three-wheeler, he did not wear a motorcycle helmet.

I was reading on the old forum that a guy went a size or two up, and he gained like 3mph...Has anybody tried this from experience? I don't mind paying extra for larger back tire. My wheels are 13", tire size 130-60-13. Is there a size that could make this possible? I have a Vespa LX150. Stock tire was a Michelin 120/70-10. I got a spare wheel with a Pirelli 120/70-10. Either tire I hit a rev limiter at an indicated 72 to 73 mph. Yesterday I mounted a new tire, a Heidenau K62 130/70-10. Nominal tire size will have 0.2" less clearance on the sides and 0.27" less clearance on top. Close, but did not rub. Nominal 120/70-10 is 16.614" diameter, a 130/70-10 is 17.165" -- 3.3% bigger. Not much, but I don't need much more. Today I was coming home on the freeway and managed to do an indicated 75 mph without hitting the limiter. I figure I was doing an actual 63-64 mph before, and I am now capable to doing an actual 65-66 mph.

How many people have had enough of the snow? Born and raised in Detroit, moved to So. Cal. in fall 1965. On one hand, I had enough of snow in '65. On the other hand, I was looking at the picture and sort of miss it. Snow ball fights, snowmen. In summer I picked up gas money mowing grass, in winter I shoveled walks and driveways.
