found a cheaper method for you if you just want to swirl a couple of colors. it will probably take a lot of trial and error but it will cut the cost dramatically if you're planning to do many. this guy seems to have the process mastered. unfortunately he doesn't give out too much info on the process but in the comments he mentioned he sands, primes, then sands again before dipping using humbrol paint.
here is one set of vids that explains the process. water temp and borax seem to be the main secrets.
it looks so awesome (well, the first 2 vids look great) i'd really like to try this on my scoot.

If one likes to tinker sure one can try to fix one, but why when you can find some for under$10.00. Alleyoop i have 3 cheap ones that work (sorta, lol). the one i want to fix is about $30-$40 to replace. plus i hope to learn something by doing it (assuming it can be done). considering how much i have spent on CDI's this year, it will be great if i can figure out how to build a reliable one or at least learn how to fix them for cheap.

i've seen a few websites and videos on making your own CDI. if you do a little searching you will find many vids and sites. i don't have any electrical background but i am guessing the main cause of failure is a blown capacitor. so that got me thinking... instead of starting from scratch, why not attempt to repair one of my many dead CDI's? has anybody tried to open a CDI?
i have 3 or 4 broken CDI's. one of them worked very well and i am hoping i can fix it. if all it needs is a new capacitor and it can be opened then it shouldn't be too difficult. or will it? thoughts?

definitely save yourself the headache and buy or borrow an impact wrench. i bought an electric 230ft/lb. impact from harbor freight for $50 and still couldn't remove that nut. took it back and bought a 330ft/lb cordless impact wrench for a ton more money. still struggled a little but managed to get it off.
seriously thought about returning it after since it was way more money than i wanted to spend but i friggin <3 my impact wrench. i won't ever be without one again.

i'm just guessing. you won't know forsure unless you remove your head and measure the piston. but i am fairly certain his atm50 has a 44mm piston if he can hit 43 mph.

he probably has a secret 60. my atm 50 had a 44mm piston which is what he probably has compared to your 39mm piston. install a bbk and you should keep up with him or possibly pass him.

air leak? if everything you have done already is working properly then i'd check all vacuum hoses and the intake manifold for air leaks. that's my 2 cents... perhaps someone with more knowledge can steer you in the right direction.

Valves A qualified technician should adjust the valves every 400 miles... 400 miles? really? i've been doing mine about every 1000 miles and i thought that was excessive. wow

... looking for a new scooter to purchase. have decided on a Roketa 150cc from superiorpowersports. a friend from work just bought a new Tao Tao Evo which was on my list so i'm crossing that one off. lol, i really like the style of this Roketa. if i put off the motorcycle endorsement i should have the cash to purchase near the end of next month. considering it will probably be close to a month from the time i order to the time it is road ready i'll use that time to save for the basic rider course. WOOT! i'm getting excited about this new purchase. can hardly wait.

well i didn't buy it. i couldn't talk my friend into helping. Hmmmm Some 'friend' Pay the $15, and pick it up when u find a better friend he doesn't have a ramp for his pickup and didn't think we could pick it up. oh well, would have been a fun project to make some extra money. i'll just try and find smaller items i can bring home on the scooter to resell next time.

well i didn't buy it. i couldn't talk my friend into helping. it might still be there if anyone in the area wants to look into it. the bike had a $25 sign but the ad online said $15. miami.craigslist.org/brw/gms/4262151393.html

i really don't think it is stolen. although i didn't think to ask them how long they owned it. they said it's been months since they had it running. i shouldn't have any problems parting it out without a title, correct? if i can get my friend's truck i think i'm going to go get it. if all goes well, i'll have a little extra money to put towards that new scooter.

i found an 80's yamaha at a yard sale. they claim they have the title but can't find it. the bike is not running and would need major repair. if i bought it i would try and salvage some parts to sell on ebay and scrap the rest. they only want $25 and i think i could possibly make $200+ but don't know if i should get involved without the title.
thoughts?

i've heard it can really mess up your engine if the tensioner comes loose. i bought a new one after i installed my bbk because the threads were stripped on the center bolt but it didn't come with new screws. sounds like you'll need larger screws anyway.
