Someday I'll get a 50cc to monkey with I'm sure... Do all of the big bore mods and the rest of the crazy stuff people do, just for fun. Otherwise, I mainly like to let a vehicle be what it is. That is why I decided to start at 150cc's. I'll get my scoot "restored" to my specs and just ride it... Then I'll do my best to b low up a 50cc!

The original plan was to get a brand new 50cc Taotao and go through it from front to back, just like I'm doing with this one. I was just about to order it online and gave it some good thought... How long would it REALLY be until I wanted to upgrade? The answer was simple.... I was already going to have to do major upgrades just to get through my own town... so 50cc was out! I planned on saving a couple hundred more $$$'s when I looked on CL and found this one. I think I not only made the correct choice, but opened Pandora's box. I want MORE, and haven't even rode mine yet! My wife wants one soon, and we already got one for our daughter.

I got my first repair completed... While I complete the wiring and wait for parts I decided to attempt a repair on my rear tail light/mud flap section before I lost my license plate. I decided to try sandwiching 2+ layers of fiberglass tape (Drywall tape) between layers of epoxy and hope for the best. I figure I will have to replace it at some point, but I'll worry about that later. It does seem pretty strong, for now. We'll see how it fairs after the test of time.

Thanks for the welcome chopper guy, as well as the bone! I assure you that I will be as safe as I can control. I do my best to be as safe as possible... That's why I'm over building the electrical system, squaring up the brakes, and adding lights before I even hit the road. I have a little experience riding on the road, but not alot. I'll be as cautious and defensive as possible, while still being courteous. The wiring is a challenge, but I'm well versed as an old airhead (air cooled VW's)... The rest of it seems like good 'ol standard wrenching.

After having it about 2 weeks, it looked like this for awhile..... After a good tear down and inspection, I saw that the entire electrical system was toast. There had been a small fire in the headlight section and all of the wires were melted into one piece in several areas. The headlight/running light switch also had the plugs melted into it. Sorry, no pics of that part. Obviously the electrical system on this scoot was not to be trusted. Big surprise, huh? Digging deeper I found this..... Somewhere down the line the the stator shorted out and was obviously not going to work... This will be a good time to update to an 11 pole stator, go to full wave charging, and change out the rectifier. I'm in the process of completing a much better main wiring harness. I'll do different upgrades or changes after I get it running. I'll update after I get the stator and we see if it will start with the stock CDI and coil. I've already changed out the fuel system and cleaned the carb.

I'm not sure if this qualifies as a "custom" Build, but it will be a pretty complete rebuild/restoration/upgrade type build. I've got alot of time on my hands and a scoot, so I'll record it here. You are welcome to come along for the ride! This is my scoot the morning after I bought it. It is 2008 Baja SC150, 150cc.

This is my 2008 Baja SC150 150cc scoot. I'll find a place to do a rebuild thread on it somewhere. They don't have a big enough smile emoticon.....

Thanks for the info, I decoded it as you were responding. Yeah, my research shows that the rear brake and the motor are the only abnormalities. I can't remember the engine # at the moment, but mine is the GY6 that has the different head bolt pattern. Otherwise, I've got a run of the mill scoot. I'm in the process of building a custom wiring harness for it, because the one that came on it was just too bad, and I couldn't trust those wire sizes. About the only wires I'm reusing are for the fuel sender. I've upgraded to 14 and 16 ga wiring for my main loom and lighting. I'm also upgrading to a full wave 11 pole stator and full wave rectifier. I am eliminating the 4-way flashers and adding low mount LED fog lights and a tach. I may end up replacing the entire gauge assembly with a digital version also. I've already replaced my valve stems, Thanks for the link though! I"ve spent an amazing amount of time researching these scoots, and think mine will be very reliable when I finish.
Also, Thanks for the help with pics. I've added a pic at the top of the page

Hi everyone! My name Is Eric, and I'm from a small town in Oregon about 45 min west of Portland called Gaston. I have always secretly wanted a scooter, so I bought one a couple of weeks ago. I still have yet to ride it, but I can't wait! I bought my scoot sight unseen, and delivered. It did not run, the battery was toast, and of course it was stored with fuel in it. It had been sitting for a couple of years and not maintained at all since purchase. It had strange looking oil in it and the brake fluid was jelly. The only "real" information the PO could give me is that when he bought it for his wife a couple of years ago he put gas and a new battery in it, then it fired up (suuuuuuuure!) but the electrical system was bad. He said he took it on a short ride where none of the lights or other electrical components worked and it seemed like the battery died and it shut off. I'm sure you're not surprised there were electrical issues, after all it is a Chinese scoot! I handed him my $340 (including delivering it almost 60 miles) and he gave me the title faster than I could disregard the info he gave me. Well.... To make a long story short, there had been a fire in the headlight harness, which destroyed the switches and any wiring near it. Luckily the body was OK and I am not afraid of electrical issues or wiring diagrams. I'll chronicle what I've done and what I'm planning to do in a build thread. Anyway, I'm sure there will be many helpful souls on this forum. I have been a part of several others as life has directed me to new toys. This is my first scoot the morning after it was delivered. i.imgur.com/XhA5eA0.jpg"
