Figured it out! I ended up taking apart the petcock per crawford's suggestion. The spring that holds the plug on the fuel portion in place was kinda long, so i shortened it (in half) so that less suction is required to operate the valve. That fixed it! Fuel is flowing freely now. Thanks for the suggestion.

some tank have a drain at bottom can you open plug drain fuel and replace plug with a screw in nipple to attach fuel hole to ? My tank does not have a drain. I would either have to use the existing petcock hole or drill a new one.

That's what I would like to do. The only issue is that the petcock is bolted onto the bottom of the tank, and the opening of the tank feeds directly into it. I would need to find some way to attach a tube to the bottom of it and seal it. Any ideas?

So I took off the intake port and looked at the reeds. The reeds looked fine, none were bent or showing light. Put it all back together and the vacuum line is still weak. So... back to square one...

Will do when i get home tonight. When the carb is removed, should there be quite a bit of suction from the intake port when the engine cranks?

Over the summer, i have been trying to get my dad's 1998 50cc Italjet Velocifero up and running. It has been out of commission for probably close to 10 years or so. I think I have it going for the most part. However, I am having trouble getting fuel to the carb.
So far, I replaced the tank-mounted petcock because it was leaking, removed and cleaned the carbureator, replaced both the fuel and vacuum lines with new tubing.
Now, if i suck the vacuum line, the petock operates and the fuel flows to the carb. I can then start up the engine and it will run pretty smoothly until the fuel in the carb gets used up, and the fuel is not replenishing from the tank. It seems like to me that the carb is not generating enough of a vacuum to operate the petock.
I did a compression test, and it's getting 120-150psi pretty consistently, so i dont think it's the piston, rings, or head gasket. Would the lack of a vacuum be a symptom of a leaky intake manifold? How do i test the vacuum that's supposed to be sucking on the carbureator?
And i would love to replace the petcock with a gravity-fed, manual valve, but i am not sure how to do this since the petcock is attached to the tank.
I am kind of at a loss and am banging my head against a wall.
