Actually, the backpacker area looked pretty clean to me, compared to what similar 3rd world countries looked like, but, then again, that was 40+ years ago. I recall garbage, rotting food, dead animals, waste in the streets all the time. Easy to judge, when you have no past to compare to.

Dave Yes, riding with no helmet is definately a freerer experience. The wind in your face, the sun shining on your face. Yes, I agree, not wearing a helmet is freedom to the max
However, those of us who feel that a helmet ain't a bad idea, are just expressing our personal opinion also.
Yes, I wish there was no such thing as an accident getting your face smashed into someone elses windshield, or pavement.
Yes, the Florida sun, the sea air, the boardwalk, , the pretty women , it's all a great experience. I wish Jeff the bestest of experiences and the sun shiniest of days riding the scoot in the Fla sun.

I told this story before (no, not about me and wearing my helmet-which is the reason I'm alive today) but of a guy riding a Triumph Rocket, two days old, 50 miles on it. Was coming to a stop, at the stop light, speed is now 0.0. Forgot to put his feet down, fell over, smashed his head on the pavement, ambulance came and took him away. Concussion, gash on forehead, scrapes and abraisains. I was right behind him. 40 MPH my big white butt. Even falling over at 0 can hurt. (Forgot to put his feet down, ??. Musta been a trike rider in a prior life)
Yup, bicycles and motorcycles/scooters/90cc/50cc.....all the same
NOT!!!!!

Yes, the stator charges the battery as the engine is running. The cig lighter/gps/fone plug in thingy is only 'hot' when your fone/gps is plugged in. Have a safe trip

I assume the police report has his information, name, address, insurance co, ins policy ,ins co phone number etc etc. The driver of the van should have already reported it to his ins co, and his ins co should be contacting you (call up the guy and find out what he's done so far) However, if not: Call them up and give them all his and information, copy of the police report showing he admitted fault, etc etc. They will have a bunch of questions for you also. Admit nothing to them. The van pulled into your path, and the police report should confirm that. They should contact you in a day or so, send out an insurance adjustor to estimate the damage. Within 30 days, you should receive payment for the damages to your scoot, and any medical expenses you had.
Option II If the other party is willing to pay for damages, you'll need to get estimates on part replacement. He can pay you for the parts and potentially any of your labour costs (what a mechanic would charge to do the work)
I recommend Option I (Ins route) To protect you for any future liability and maybe even medical issues Hitting a van, breaking the windshield can't be easy on a body.
Good luck and let us know what happens
And, you really should ge some insurance on that scoot. The cost is minimul and it can only save you money in the long run. Also, I believe it's the law.

Thanx Leo, and Thanx Digit Again, this ain't about me, it's about ANYONE who has experienced a change in lifestyle for whatever reason, that does what they have to do to do what they did when they could do what they used to do before they couldn't, but now can again.
Life throws us a curve every now and then, and it's how we manage that curve that makes the difference. I truely believe I'm a better person now than I was a year ago. (Which means I musta been a real butt wipe then (since I can't say )).
And, yes, I truely enjoy riding that Candy Apple Red (Chinese Maroon) [or Moron] trike around town. Life is short Life is good Enjoy life Love to all

domindart Thanx for thinking of me. I get cussed out by the GF for doing 'too much'. I just try to do the same things I did before. She says I do more now than before. I seldom wear my basic prost leg. I just get around on forearm crutches When I get the new leg, computer programmed, better fit, I'll probably wear it more often. more pic when I do. Ride safe Dave Hi Dave You have my best wishes and prayers Take care and ride safely dear friend 'Yours Hank Thanx Hank I'm doin just fine. In fact, maybe even better than before. , my ex wife is even talking to me now, and civil too!!!!!! I'm not on here to push an agenda for amputeeism. I'm here to learn about scoots, meet fellow scooterists, talk scoot talk, and ride. If someone wants to talk about accidents, I can do that too. My handicap/limitations/crippleness is just a mere disctraction from enjoying life the best way I know how. Tanks man Dave

When I was in the military, it was a requirement to wear ATGATT. On base/off base/on duty/off duty If you were killed, while riding your bike, and did not have on all your gear, the gov't could refuse to pay your $250K gov't life ins.
I'm alive today cause I was wearing my helmet. Nuf said bout dat. Case proven Case closed

Eventhough you may not have meant bad, I think taking a photo of, or staring at a disabled person, for the sake of his disability, may be not a very good idea. Maybe/Maybe not I get a lot of stares. Mostly from innocent children. Those are the one I talk to about it, and explain what happened, and that they should always wear their helmet when riding their bike, etc etc. I welcome the questions. It gives me a chance to remind everyone/anyone that it could very easily happen to them, in a split second. There isn't time to react (like putting your hands/arms over your head). It happens before you even get a chance to blink. My helmet/jacket/gloves saved my upper body. Nothing could have saved my leg. But, I'm here to enjoy the new to me scoot ife. I appreciate life more now than ever. Feel free to ask anything, and I'll try my best to explain, based on my own experience. Amputees know they're different. , my dog knows I'm different. He waits for me to get to the top of the stairs before he goes up, and down, after I get to the bottom step. So, next time, don't give a stare, give a thumbs up, for surviving in a two legged world. Amputees have to try twice as hard to do the same things 'y'all' do. I'm just loving life Dave (I was down town a couple days ago, on the scoot, with my crutches strapped on the side, a car turning from a side street saw me, smiled, and gave me the thumbs up. Meant more to me than him looking away, staring, etc.)

Zodiacs

Mr. P Thanx I ride a trike cause I have to, and, I enjoy it. Actually, I'm kinda getting into this scooter thing. Next I want a 300cc 2 wheel scooter I rode cruizers/Tourers (shadow 1100 and a Goldwing) for years, but an accident (while on my Rat Bobber Magna) ended that experience. I got this Zodiac cause it looks really kool, needs little performance upgrades, don't have to shift/balance, and it's a chic magnet. Not as much room as there is in the back seat of my caddy, but, it works for now. Just another toy in the garage.
Enjoy life and ride safe
