Welcome back. It is always good to hear about another scoot back in the road.

Are you talking about the one that goes on the outside of the CVT cover before the snap ring?

Just another thought. Were you sure you reconnected the ground wire that connects to the valve cover. I'm just asking because that was a simply mistake I made after my last valve adjustment. My scoot wouldn't start so I thought it was an electrical problem. Went through troubleshooting for a week before I noticed the simple mistake.

Thanks for the reply Joey I initially had 14 sliders and that didn't work, I tried 12 rollers but still no good. I thought like you did, that the rollers might be the reason, so I put in 9.5 gram sliders. It ran the best so far. Do you think I should go even lighter on the rollers, maybe to an 8 roller? Never have read about a 150 cc no less a 180 cc with variator weights that light. What do you think? I agree with the other member. Check out the other forum where Alleyoop is at. Sounds like a carb problem and he is an expert with trikes.

I'm a little confused about what you initially set the valves at. Your first post said .0045" then your second said .020". That's a wide range from too tight to too loose.
Could you please clarify this. Because both ranges cause different problems.

I have a 150cc, and I have it set at .004inch / .005inch. I get a light tapping which some people find annoying. But I go by, light tapping is good, no tapping means valves need adjusting.
If no one chimes in with your size motor that tested various setting, I would try .005inch intake and .006inch exhaust. If it taps to much you may have to back it down to .004/.005. Getting the exact settings that your engine like is trial and error. But once you find that sweet spot it will be very easy for readjustment.

I couldn't help but laugh about installing nitrous on a scooter. After watching one of my favorite YouTube channels, Mighty Car Mods, install it on a car. It actually seems feasible.

If taking off your air filter gets better results, sounds like you are running too rich. In theory, removing the air filter increased the amount of air which improved your air fuel ratio. Have you gone through Alleyoop's carb tuning guide? www.itistheride.com/Help_carb_adj_4T.pdfAnother question is what is the weights of your rollers or sliders inside your variator? Maybe your weights are too heavy resulting in a good low end takeoff, but topping out too low in the max speed.

I agree with RCQ. I would go back, be 100% sure you are too deep center (TDC) then check your measurements.
Not sure which video you watched, but this one is very good, and short.

What size engine do you have?
150cc = .004 inch intake / .005 inch exhaust
50cc = .003 inch intake / .004 inch exhaust
