Maybe best thing is not to offer service to people if your not an experienced mechanic? I support stevo684. First he opened the only shop on the island. That takes guts right there. And we need more scooter shop, not less. I have one in my town and they have a scooter listed on CL stating it doesn't run and don't know why. That says it all about them. And maybe it's his first BBK. We all need to learn.

So after riding it a few more times and listening to it and paying attention, I find that the bogging happens (in reference to the carb tuning graph picture) from right off idle to about 3/16 throttle to where the jet needle kicks in, then it speeds up rapidly to about 1/3 power and does not bog over that point. So should I raise the needle? I tuned the fuel/air mix but cannot get any better than what I have it at now. It is set slightly rich right now. Tuning it lean does not get rid of the bogging. The high end seems to be "wanting." Like I feel at about 3/4 throttle that no more throttle above this will make it go any faster. It also makes a higher noise than normal if I try to go full WOT, but does not go faster than 3/4 throttle. Would this be something to tune by changing the main jet or air intake, not sure which? Okay, from how you describe it, sounds like right you are running rich then lean. Try raising your needle and upping your main jet one size.

lain, I like asking questions when someone has a problem. That way I can try to avoid the same issue. The only reason I can think of for it getting stuck is the extreme cold you northerners have had lately.

I swear... One problem after another... I want to replace my oil today, I think I've finished breaking in the BBK. I tried to remove the oil drain cap but instead the cap got rounded off! I even tried with a vice grip and that just rounded it off more... To initially get the drain plug off, were you using a socket and ratchet? My plug is plastic, so any other tool would tear it up.

Even if they approve the law, I still would not split lanes. It's not worth getting injured by some stupid driver.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I'm pissed an easy task, or at least what I thought would be, has turned into an involved project with a trip to the hardware store.
But it will reassure me knowing that I have quality brake fluid. I've seen several posts about it, and fork oil will be next in my list.

Makes me feel better I'm not the only one that had a problem.
The first screw I just used a screw driver with the bit. Even with all my weight the screw just buggered out. The second screw I used a rachet with socket that fit the Phillips head bit. Again with all my weight pressing down the screw tore like cheap paper.

Okay, the other day I wanted to bleed to factory brake fluid from a 150cc TaoTao to ensure I had quality fluid. I thought it would be an easy process of opening the brake fluid reservoir, bleeding, and filling. I found a Phillips head bit that fit the screws perfectly, but they were on with some crazy guerrilla strength. Now I have to remove the screws with an extractor bit and find replacements. Was I correct that the two top screws are the only hardware to open the reservoir?

I surprised you are even taking it out. The news keeps claiming you guys are getting a "biblical" amount of snow. My scoot would be sitting in the garage waiting for warmer weather. But it looks so sexy at night in the snow! I see so the mix screw only changes the pilot, but would't that still affect the mix of the main jet as well since the pilot jet doesn't shut off when the main jet is in use does it? I found this chart very helpful when tuning my carb.

Scooters, even those with a BBK, are not high compression engines. I have never heard a scooter engine with octane related knocks or pings. All gasoline is required by the EPA to have cleaning agents regardless of the octane rating. Using high octane in your scooter will do nothing but make you spend a bit more money. If you do use it, fine, if you normally use it and get lower octane by accident, also fine. The only thing you may want to search for in your attempts to fill up is gasoline with no ethanol mixed in, it can gum up your carb if allowed to sit for a while. Somebody give the man a cigar, we have a winner. Scooter engines's compression is no where enough for preiginition of a lower grade octane level. I would guess the higher gease gas may even be older than lower grade gas from customer demand.

I tried adjusting the mix left for more fuel and it bogged out, so I tuned it to the right to more air and it seemed to work a little better but now sometimes rumbles on deceleration and lags on acceleration still. If this keeps up I am surely going to clean the carb out. I haven't checked for a leak with the flour trick yet, the whole engine is wet after riding now since I am riding in just snow on some streets, but I will be checking that soon as I can...
