Hey Everybody, RCQ provided me a link to this thread so I thought I would just stop in and say hi to everyone and say what an awesome thread this is....I've been very busy with work and haven't had much time to visit other forums and don't know how soon I'll check back in, but if anyone has any questions, you can find a link to my forum by clicking on the friends list here at it'stheride... Or, you can send me a personal message on this forum, I will get a notification in my email. In case you haven't realized by my handle, I am Dan Martin, owner of Martin Mopeds LLC, the person who assembled RCQ's engine. This engine was a fun build.... I build a lot GY6's, but Taida's are always the coolest. !!!!! DAN MARTIN !!!!!
THE FATHER OF SUPERENGINE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SAY "HELLO" TO THE MAN WHO MADE ALL OF THIS POSSIBLE !!!!

Super huge thanks to GEH for donating his NCY clutch pulley, NCY 1,500 contra spring, and NCY clutch bell. With a 4th gen NCY clutch pad assembly, SuperEngine now has an all-NCY clutch. Here are a couple of photos of the parts GEH donated, all cleaned up and ready to insyall: ... and the GEH clutch bell and contra spring: And here are all the parts coming together George (GEH) malso sent his K&S variator to try out (he liked it far more than the several Koso variators he previously had). I've been using a very expensive Dr. Pulley variator (twice the cost of any others), but have never been all that happy with the results. So, off with the Dr. pepper and on with the K&S. Here are GEH's parts, all cleaned up and ready to install: And here, with some new 12 gr Dr Pepper sliders: It's all installed now. Here is the result:

Same road bump. Two weeks ago I was driving down this road (it's a long downhill section) at 60 or 65mph when I got launched by this bump. Both wheels off the road. When the scooter hit again it was violent enough it broke the weld on the engine hanger (the only thing holding the engine on). Note the tube that holds the engine bolt only had about 1/2 inch of weld left: BUT THAT WAS NOTHING !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yesterday afternoon - in rush hour traffic - I came down the same road. This time looking carefully to avoid whatever i went flying off 10 days earlier, this time only going 50 or so mph. Car in front, car behind, cars on both sides. Unfortunately, I didn't see the "bump" until both wheels were a foot or 2 off the ground. This time the landing was worse. Handlebar went sharply left, then right, then left ... 4 or 5 rapid left/right snaps to the front wheel as the suspension bounced. Somehow - I have no idea how other than God - the scooter didn't turn sideways and start flipping through the air, with me somewhere flying also. And with all the cars on all sides, the chances of NOT ending up under someone's wheels would be pretty low. Then it straightened out - somehow. 100 yards later had to stop at a red light - guy behind me rolled down his window and yelled out, "Hey - buddy - are you OK???" Went back today to make sure I know where this "bump" is. Almost invisible going toward it since it's like a ski jump - s smooth transition and then a sharp upward ramp of 6 or 8 inches - then an abrupt stop to the ramp you literally fly off. Only in the CENTER of the lane, so cars are not affected at all (unless they bottom out going above it). Doesn't look like much here, but oh boy is it exciting: I have some pavement marking paint (red) somewhere. Think I'll go back at night and at least outline this thing so another dance with death doesn't happen.

i dont want to create more work or be a wet blanket on the party,,,,BUT i would take this as a sign and (as long as it's still apart) check all welds and attachment points in and around the area to make sure there are no more failures either starting or already there waiting,,,paint flaking next to welds means movement or flexing ,,,go over it with a fine toothed comb,,,that would be top priority for me,,, Thanks, C-borg (or is it C-Borq?). Excellent advice.

It's possible (maybe not likely, but possible) that if you fix the leak and fill the crankcase again with oil the bearing will quiet down

Bearings. Crank depends on bearings also.

When you have an exhaust leak it causes the computer to think its running lean and the EFI then tries to compensate adding more fuel by keeping the injector open longer leading to excess fuel in the exhaust however the valves also need to be adjusted properly because if they are a tad too tight then they will open too soon adding to the problem. The EFI won't be able to calibrate itself unless the exhaust header is sealed with no leaks. Parts for Scooters is local to me in nearby St Pete and would be my GoTo guys for a decent exhaust. Matt does a pretty good job ensuring that things are taken care of and sets a pretty high bar for all his people to match. Thanks... I buy 98% of my parts from them. I actually got the performance exhaust from them. However, they do not seem to sell the stock style exhaust I need, thus is why I bought the one I have now. I've looked high and low online and can't seem to find the one I need. Parts for scooters sell one that is for a zen150 but I can't tell if it will fit as they don't give many details about it. I paid 150.00 for the exhaust from them and would really like to keep it as I like the sound, but I have no experience in EFI and don't have a clue of if I should or how to program it for the bigger exhaust. On another note, is there a way to tell if it is actually leaking? As mechanic says to cover the muffler with a rag and listen for it, but it seems risky by blocking off the exhaust. and I don;t know what I'm listening for. My recent experience with PartsForScooters was not so good. Had the engine hanger on my scoot break; ordered one from PFS. Their adv. said it was applicable to GY6 152/157 QMI/QMJ scooters. My BMS Heritage is just a standard version of using one of those very engines. Part came - didn't fit. OK, no problem - things happen. But I would have at least expected them to refund my money so it didn't cost me anything. After all - I relied on THEIR advertisement and did nothing wrong on my end. Requested a RMA and got one with the "reason for return" ~~~~ "customer error - customer ordered wrong part". So I've had to pay for return shipping and still do not know what kind of partial refund I'll be getting. I even bothered to call and discuss the issue, but the woman told me "that's our policy, nothing I can do". Not the kind of response i would expect when THEY screwed up. Think I'll stick with GY6RacingParts from now on. Even though they are in Puerto Rico, parts arrive here in San Diego in half the time, prices are better, and service is a little more responsible.

got the power issue sorted.. it was shorting out from a loose connection.. so the choke and the headlights are functional again.. tried tuning the carb to match the uni filter. had an jet in.. tried an 80.. did the same thing.. it can't handle wide open throttle.. it bogs down.,. if i let up.. it goes ok.. and once its at speed it can go full throttle ok.. so then put a 78 jet.. its a little better.. thinking this uni just is going to be hard to get tuned for my bike.. which sucks.. i suppose ill keep trying smaller jets.. before i give up and just go to the standard airbox. That Engine is SCREAMING for More Fuel. Uni really easy to tune Bro. Were here to help, please give Her More Fuel. Hey P-guy! What's with the pirate symbol ?? We all KNOW you are a metrosexual fashion model.

Hold on there, Hoss. You are going in the wrong direction! When you took off the filter it increased the air flow. Scooter ran even worse. Pretty stong evidence there is not enough fuel getting in to match the amount of air getting in. When you go to a SMALLER jet you make things even worse !!!!!

Wow thats nasty!! coulda got hurt. Yeah, only about 1/2 inch of weld remaining! Could have gotten hurt, like those who run into deer at night. Worse still, could have messed up Matrin's SuperEngine!

Engine hanger was broken almost all the way through !!!!!!!!! Crappy ChinaWelds! Bought a new hanger - but of course it was the wrong size. So, took the old one to my welder and he welded it up to last beyond Armageddon.
