No harm no foul just make sure there's one in there as soon as you can,,,,when you swapped exhaust did you see evidence of a leak? Black soot residue around the port? No real miles on the machine yet to worry about the exhaust gasses flame cutting the head but I wouldn't wait too long,,,,probably in there you just overlooked it

i actually think you have a combination problem,,,one the valves are too tight,,and need to be adjusted and second the fuel tank has a venting problem,,,i've also experienced a sustained high speed (such as it is) full throttle vacuum drop so the auto fuel tap closes,,,,shutting off the fuel to the carb,,,so nice when blasting in traffic,,,,that was on my vespa et4,,,,i'm all manual now on all my machines,,choke,,fuel taps, all nanny state sidestand/clutch/brake starter run switches eliminated,,,,man i hate that stuff,,,reminds me of my granma,,,jesus she was a nag too,,,nothing like rippin down a fire road and having your engine shut off mid whoop,,,,cause your sidestand bounced and shuts off the engine,,,,super fun

Change the vacuum line from the intake manifold to the fuel tap,,,to clear line to see if there is a leak in the diaphragm ( crack or hole) and introducing extra fuel into the intake manifold ,,,I always change all my fuel and vac lines to clear so I can see problems at a glance,,,bet you a 10 spot on that one

I'm thinking a part has been forgotten in the starter gear

Cold or hot mine starts with less than 2 revolutions,,,and yours should be the same,,,,the engine should be eager to lite,,,

Both valves should be closed on the compression stroke at the top dead center,,,,both of the follower ends of the rocker arms will be on the "base circle "of the cam so it will be the "lowest" part of the cam then do the adjustment "dead cold" 4-6 hours minimum cool down preferably overnight,,, then the hard hot starts go away,,,,happy happy

There's a venting problem ,,,,thats air rushing into the tank,,,,,,take a very small drill and drill the cap ,,,, problem solved,,, happy day

That's where I'd be starting,,, the valves,,, and when it dies and you remove the fuel cap did you hear air rush inside? Like the fuel tank is under vacuum?

With regular service with quality parts and fluids i'd put my money on 30-35,000 ringjobs and 65-70,000 full rebuilds which would include lower end bearings and head rebuilds the whole magilla,,,,,depends on how the chassis holds up as well,,,anything after 35,000-40,000 i'd be keeping a very close eye on the frame and all associated parts for signs of fatigue cracks ,,,with religious service i'd expect 120-150,000 total service life,,,then she'd be pretty much done
