Checking some more, I find that a base-model S10 pickup seems to be a workable option: 7' cargo box (will fit with tailgate up), decent mileage (4-cylinder), cheap and plentiful repair parts, and they seem to sell cheap at GSA auctions. Bonus: these are base models: crank window, rubber-mat, vinyl-seat trucks with no options except A/C and automatic...just the way I like it!

Personally imo, a full size van is a big "investment" in fuel just so you'll have it around the few times you might need it to haul your bike. Personally, I'd think about a more fuel efficient car and just buy a trailer for $500 bucks or so. In the long run, it'll pay for itself with all the money you'll save on fuel compared to a full size van. A trailer is not practical for me.

ive found my scoot fits nicely in the back of a dodge minivan that gets about 20mpg. ive bought many scoots with that van. you have to take the seats out, but they leave great cargo strap attachment points. it rolls right into the side door great, mirrors usually have to come off, but the sliding side door has a taller opening than the rear. What kind of scoot? I have a Helix clone...it's a BIG scooter and I can't imagine it fitting in a minivan.

Well...its looking like I either get an Econoline (2" to spare) or get REALLY good at pulling the windshield!

I will test-fit before buying! (Worst case, I can pull the windshield in 5 minutes.) I already checked, and by published dimensions, it will NOT fit in a GM van!

Mine squeak if I haven't ridden in a few days, especially if it has been humid. (The bare-steel drum surface rusts.) More problematic: it makes the rear brake VERY grabby until I de-rust things. The easiest fix I have found is to just do a couple of hard stops with the rear brake. Don't go crazy...I have found stops from 10-15MPH are all you need.

Unfortunately, I do not think my maxi-scoot will fit in an Astro, with its high windshield and big top case. I'm thinking Ram 2500, E-150, or Savana 1500. Tvnac: your van needs something, possibly an O2 sensor. I managed more than 9MPG even when I drove 15-pax Ram 3500's with 5.9's, 3. gears, and spent all day putting around Boston and Quincy! Even the hi-top B350 with the 360, 4.11's, a 2' raised roof, and 300,000 miles managed better than 9MPG.

Question: does anyone here use a cargo van (mini or full-size) to carry their scoot? I will need to replace my Jeep eventually (204,000 miles and unfortunately, starting to rust) and am considering getting a cargo van if this is practical. (And honestly....I like vans.) I did some checking and used cargo vans seem to be pretty much given away! I found, among other things, a 2000 Ram 2500 cargo van (318 engine, 4.10 gears, A/C, tilt/cruise, cassette player, solid body, and a hitch) with 20,000 miles for $1100!

300 miles on a 2007? jeez. I'd like to find a few deal like that to work with. No kidding...my 2007 has 10,300 miles!

I'm visiting my mother right now & brought my scoot. Pulling into the driveway...my stepfather knocked it (and his motorcycle) over! ARRRRRRRRRRGH! One broken body panel...I'm hunting for it.
