either way the variators on way are way better then stock also mybe ur scoot is pushing alot of power bc 2000 rpm is alot means it will engage after ur high revs wht u can do is either get heavyer rollor weigths i kno i said it could be one problem but this is another it could be

if it over heated i would one buy a new blet (kevlar) 2 you could have melted or "warpped" ur variator bc the block is aluminum and it dispenses the heat thats all i got to say lol

u need the bendix to start it if im not mistaken it has to push out and grab the variator
and yeah replace it all

oh and ur idle gear the bearings and bushings could be bad so replace and u wont hae this problem for awile

all on ebay or parts for scooters
its mainly 2 things that are cause the idle gear and stater itself all very easy if u take the variator off with a impact
u can take ur starter out and try to start ur scoot and see if it spins

voltage regulator ;D my high beam would work then die then again and die replanced it and was fine after look at my pics and use a H/4 55w baja fog lamp

ok so from my understaning
when u have the stator at the T mark is ur piston at the very furthest point out? so make the crank spin till the piston is "Top Dead Center" after that lign up the "T" mark and THEN look at ur camshaft and see if ur teeth are ligned up just right after that charge ur battery the stator should still be pumping charge but id have it on a slow charge when ur not working on it
if you do all that then ur stator is fine
also like they said look for compression
and tell us what it is and is not doing
