Howdy. To sum up my life, when the moped craze took off, all my friends had a Honda Express, I had a 3 speed Schwinn. Now I'm 53, all my friends have Harley's, and up until a couple weeks ago, I had a 16 speed Trek. Then one of my best friends, in the process of helping his son buy a motorcycle acquired a decent running 50cc chinese scooter covered with hard red plastic crap and gave it to me. I am not opposed to a scooter, in fact when I saw the IceBear Mad Dog 150, I pretty much decided I'm going to own one. In the mean time, 50cc's and red plastic just can't work, and I've watched one too many custom shows too just leave it alone, and so begins project "Rat Bob".
The scooter is currently completely torn down, the engine is sitting on the bench prepped for an 80cc BBK I'm waiting on, I've been working on the frame, eliminated all the factory wire holders and a bunch of mounting points for the old plastic shell, got the first coat of color on it today, using a good quality farm implement paint in John Deere yellow for it. I should have the final coat on it tomorrow. Going with a naked frame bobber kind of looking thing. I'm going to be using a corrugated PVC conduit system to run all the wiring and integrate it into the overall appearance instead of trying to minimize it. The seat will either be a sprung saddle or perhaps a Ruckus style, should end up a few inches further back and lower than the stock seat, and finally the floor pan will be polished aluminum diamond plate.
Since I'm a Cyclone fan, might do the forks, handlebars, rims and conduit in red, and go with white walls, think that might actually look kind of sharp.

"Now I'm 53, all my friends have Harley's, and up until a couple weeks ago, I had a 16 speed Trek." Welcome to the forum. I have similar experience. I rode road bicycles and mountain bikes while my kids were growing up. I got a 125cc scoot a few years back. A 125cc scoot feels plenty fast compared to a bicycle. I also tinkered with motorized bicycles for a few years and I still have an e-bike.
