Hey everyone, I got a couple of questions. My kickstart broke and started dangling and with the power of google i found out how to open up the belt cover and found out what's wrong. Turns out the half-moon gear is basically cracked and needs to be replaced. I was trying to get it off but there's a little "thing"......on the kickstart lever post, so it can't get pulled off. the "thing" is being held by the tool in this video right at the beginning. so a couple questions: 1. what's the name of this tool that will reach into the holes of this "thing" in order to get it off. and will i have to worry about " specs on this tool so I don't get one who's prongs are too big for the job? 2. what's this "thing" called while I'm at it? 3. Is there any homebrew mickey mouse way of getting this "thing" off without buyin the tool? (kinda broke) 4. When I buy a new kick gear does this "thing" usually come with it? in case I bend the original and make it useless. and onto the kick idler, it's fine, but while I'm at it i wanna ask. I removed the kick idler but the shaft stayed on the cover, much like on the video above. i can't get it off and the part that came off basically looks like this.... IE: no shaft, it's still in the belt cover. Yet everything you can buy online looks like this.... Shaft attached. I don't think i broke it, as it can still slide on and off the shaft so my question is... 5. Is the shaft actually attached to these things? Or if I buy one will i be able to slide out the shaft and just use the round part on the shaft that's already in the cover. Do I need a different part? that's really about it, i hope people can help. Lots of questions, but probably only need short simple answers. The bike is a Qlink Rave 50, 49cc with a 1p39QMB engine, thanks in advance!

The thing they removed int he video is called a bushing. The tool I do not know because my tool kit only includes MacGuyver on a stick, a paperclip, 2 silver dollars, a compass and an old rusty screwdriver (loljk).
I use wd40 and whack the case until it drops out, sometimes the bushing needs to be removed by wedging something in there and twisting, but if you do that it can't be reused due to damage unless you are super careful but chances are if whacking didn't help it's not going to come out without a fight.
You should order a complete kickstarter set with bushings, gears, spring, C-clip, and don't reuse any old pieces if you can help it. Like using an old gear with a new idle gear may end up with the teeth from one gear chewing up the other gear.

Hmm,...there's a notch in the slot the shaft is in on my belt cover. Maybe so it can be pulled out with some kind of tool? I defintiely cant get it out by hand

Have you tried warming the cover casting around the shaft, then gently tapping on the shaft side? A hair dryer heat gun might work . . or positioning the outer cover surface over (not touching) an electric stove top element.
If ordering a replacement . . be sure to measure because there are two types of 139QMB idle shaft gears.

Thanks, I'll try to figure something out
so should I assume there's no rare part im looking for and its definitely the shaft just being stuck?
I've seen shaftless gears like the one in the pic above, but it's for a yamaha, they're pretty rare and it looks like they aren't for QMBs in any way shape or form. Mine isn't a 139qmb, it's a 1P39qmb to be specific, if that matters

scooterdoc.proboards.com/thread/8281/139qmb-1p39qmb?page=1&scrollTo=66145Try using a hook or a bent screwdriver and some wd40 to pull it out, try twisting it gently and rocking it side to side with one hand as you pull it out with the tool in the other hand. I personally don't use kickstarters except in rare extreme situations, and have mine removed and in my buckets or at home to prevent fast hotwiring. Does your scoot have an electric starter? Can you take some pics of inside so we have a better idea of what you are looking at?

ok i'll see what i can acheive here and keep yall updated. i haven't been focusing on it recently. thanks for the help so far!
it has an electric start thats broken, but since i'm halfway there with learning how to fix the kick, i don't wanna start from scratch and learn the whole new science of troubleshooting the electric start. i need to get it running asap. i did learn recently that you shouldn't rely on the kick, so i won't waste much time before tackling the electric, but i really need to get the thing on the road first. then i can start looking at the electric start and i'll have time to poke and prod.
