I think you should still at least have the mech get whatever it is that makes it his. My car mech told me about it when someone brought in a car then didn't want to fix it (too expensive) and abandoned it. He had to let it sit there for I think 3 months, then could claim it as his and get a "mechanic's --" something (maybe lien? maybe title? don't remember that word, sorry). Then he could legally sell it or keep it as his own or do whatever. And the previous owner couldn't come back trying to claim it. I can see that happening to you. Owner who abandoned it can come back saying he'd changed his mind, or found someone else to fix it cheaper, or something. And wants his scoot back. Proper papers will cover your mech's and your own back. >'Kat Mechanic's lien, prolly the easiest way, though you'll likely have to pay for the cost, which is usually not much.
