ricardo, I do like how you think. heh heh heh....
Personally lain, what I call it is stupidness. But then I also apply that to the folks who install those anti-mufflers on their cars to make them louder.

Another definition question-- If I'm in a bad mood, and I'm driving my scoot, does that make me a riding b----? --or maybe that smiley should be >'Kat

I don't think anybody mentioned wearing ATGATT. (All the gear, all the time). My days of feeling invincible are long gone. Most of the scoot riders in my area wear a baseball cap, shorts and flipflops on the road. The maxi scoot riders tend to wear all the protective equipment.

Target fixation is terrible. I remember riding my bicycle as a kid, going between two objects, like a fence and a car, staring at the fence, and sure enough, I ate the fence. I did that twice. By the second time I realized why it happened.

"Target fixation is terrible." Riding dirt bikes helped me with target fixation because you often face many obstacles at the same time. If you want to avoid that big rock or big hole, you have to look "away" from the rock or hole and keep it in your peripheral vision. -That video really illustrates how ATGATT can be the difference between a bad day and a bad year (or life!). Did you see how the leather sleeve was torn in the second clip? I prefer sweat as well.

I've said it before, I prefer my skin where God put it and not smeared on a road.
Most of the scooter drivers I see wear open helmets, maybe "riding" gloves (meaning the thin leather kind), then regular clothes. I sometimes feel a bit overdressed with helmet, jacket, real gloves, pants, and boots, but I also feel protected from road rash and stuff. Yeah, it's a nuisance putting all that on and off, but my well-being is worth more than those few minutes of hassle.
Of course, in an article about squidy crotch rocket drivers, ATGATT isn't really going to come into play now is it?

Just remembered a story my driver's ed teacher told. They were going down a residential street and the student started staring at one of the cars parked alongside. Teacher told him not to stare, not to look at it, look down the street, etc etc etc.
Ended up hitting the car and taking off the back bumper. Teacher said it doesn't get more embarrassing than ringing someone's doorbell at 8a.m. with their car's bumper in your hands.
Glance at it then look away. Glance and go. Never stare.

Did you see how the leather sleeve was torn in the second clip? I prefer sweat as well. I saw that. When I had my wreck, it tore the shoulder of my thin nylon jacket. Lucky for me it was slippery and I slid on it. It took the cut and not my shoulder. I am just glad I had boots and a helmet on. What would be nice is a one piece suit, that zips all the way from the neck to the ankles, that you can throw on like a jacket. I can't wear hot clothes. They make me miserable. If riding is miserable then it isn't worth it. I like riding in the winter. That's when I get to wear my nice warm jacket. I ride in the rain a lot. That's no fun because the rain suit gets pretty warm.

scooter, have you tried light colored mesh gear? I am seriously cooler in my pink and white jacket than not, even at stops. My best friend (who's driven motorcycles for...30? years??) sort of tested the theory. Rode for a while without his jacket, then with it. He told me yes, he was definitely cooler with it. And one day he rode from Lawrence to my home, and his jacket and gloves didn't meet. And his wrists were terribly hot most of the way, while the rest of him was comfortable in the breeze. Stay away from black gear, which sucks in the sun's heat as well as being less noticeable. "Cooler" isn't cooler! Or else someone makes a very meshy top that is pretty much just the armour held in place with very open mesh. Sorry, I don't know who made it--I saw it in an online auction. I was tempted to bid, but I know myself and I wouldn't be comfortable in less protection than full coverage. Plus it went for more than I was willing to pay, what with the new car payments sigh. >'Kat

I will look into those mesh ones. Thanks!

Trust me.. I live in the Mohave desert. A silver mesh jacket with heat out shirt is much cooler in the summer than bare skin. The mesh acts as shade. Plus you can soak the heat out shirt and it cools while moving. It doesn't cool you as much as it stops you from getting hotter. Every summer people ask how i can wear a jacket in the heat. I have to explain that it isn't that type of jacket..
