Dave, that's the right attitude. If you really wanted to drive to impress, you'd need a Jag or Austin Martin or God only knows what. Sadly though, they don't get you from A to B any faster or better than your scoot-scoot does. I learned in middle school (maybe even grade school) not to give a rat about others' opinions of me, just as long as I wasn't doing something bad or truly embarrassing for the family name. I was in h.s. when name jeans got big. Girls HAD to have the fancy stitching on the back pockets. So I purposely found plain pocket jeans to wear. One girl tried to give me crap, but I asked her "Who really cares what's on your back pockets?" Shut her up. I also found an anti-Izod shirt that I loved to wear. I was such a rebel! I blame my folks for giving me a strong sense of self. >'Kat

I wonder if moped owners get ribbed by scooter folks... I will admit that I gave crap to the pair of Vespissers I encountered at the dealer. But then, when I greeted them they looked at my Piaggio and then pointedly ignored me. And loudly told the clerk that their friend was impressed with their scooters so he needs a VESPA (yes, their emphasis). I asked my clerk, "Don't they understand my Piaggio makes their little Vespas?" And the clerk told me, "Actually, your bike is better than theirs--those 16" wheels make it as fast as their 250s are. And you paid less, too." Caught them both doing that looking but trying not to look thing. I despise snotty attitude. >'Kat Kneivel

Just tell them the ride is just so much more fun and how you don't need to pay excessively high insurance, maintenance and fuel costs and makes finding parking so much more easy . If they tend to PC then tell them that it also reduces traffic impact and besides, it is the environmentally responsible thing to do. That might quiet them down some. If not, then they just don't and probably won't ever get it. In that case just say "OK ,go ahead and yuck it up fur balls.... you go dig deep and empty your pockets and I'll just laugh all the way to the bank." Even the clueless may pay more attention when it comes to $$$.

Yeah, Zhan, ride what you like. Lots of us have both motorcycles and scooters. I enjoy both, and use one to run parts for the other as needed. Most days, I don't know which I'm riding until I leave the house. And, you know, I don't know anyone who has actually taken a spin on a scooter that bad-mouths them.

Say Zhan, what do your yuckers drive? Unless they're driving something like a Prius or Leaf, they really shouldn't be giving you any sort of grief whatsoever.
Bet most are in rusted-out F250s. Or whatever rocky said in that other thread.

My other ride is a 1961 Land Rover Series 2, it doesn't get more macho than that, that makes it even

The guy who ribbed me most drives an old 1986 Nissan Pathfinder that barely runs. What annoyed me most is that he would set my blinkers on and turn my high beam on so that when I started up my scooter I'd be annoyed. I was annoyed. Anyone caught messing with my scoot will get my size 10 steel toed boot buried so deep in their butt it will have to be surgically removed. Yeah it kinda irked me. LOL

Throw in some low weight sliders, and then challenge any of them to an 1/8 mile. That will change their attitudes!

zhan, if stupid jerk does it again once you scoot to work, warn him that you're going to report him for vandalism. Or see if there's something more appropriate. That goes beyond just messing with a buddy to harassment and more.
Or else move his side mirrors just a little. Esp the right one--I think an 86 is old enough it won't have remote power mirrors. Move them enough to mess his view, but not enough to be immediately obvious before getting in.
Then warn him to quit messing with your scooter or you'll report him.
Dang, that just irks me. Really bugs me. Besides being utterly childish, it really is harassment. And stupid.
I had a coworker who just wouldn't quit ragging on me to customers. I understood it was his type of joking around, to put down others. But it was all the time and he wouldn't stop. I finally pretty much exploded on him and lit into him and even dropped the f-bomb (which I almost never use) when I saw he wasn't taking me seriously yet. That shut him up. I also mentioned it to our boss, said I know he isn't really being malicious but it's just getting tiresome that he will not stop. He has stopped it.

When friends harass me about my scooter, I spar around a bit verbally, but mostly just grin and bare it. Until vacation time comes around, and I point out that I could take a much nicer vacation thanks to all the money my scooter has saved me! Pretty much has stopped the little bit of harassment I've received, that and me pulling away from them when we leave the parking lot at work!
