Welcome to the site!
I rode (and ENJOYED) a Chinese 150 for nearly seven years... I can pretty well tell you what will improve them over "factory". I found an upgraded CDI truly DID make a noticeable overall improvement with faster starting, smoother idle, better gas mileage, stronger acceleration and no rev-limiting. A good coil, and iridium spark plug also seems to work well with the new CDI. All these "upgrades" are simple "plug n' play" and affordable, taking only minutes to achieve. And yeah... Don't drop the spark-plug down the rabbit-hole... LOL! Getting the carburetor "just right" is also a key element. Usually they are too lean from the factory, so do check the plug to see if the engine is running lean. It's not difficult to change jets in them. If the "improvement bug" REALLY does bite you, you may want to play with the exhaust. I found however that the actual MUFFLER made little difference in performance. It's the HEADER being too small from the factory that limits performance. I eventually made a full, 1-inch header (matches the actual exhaust port opening for free-breathing) and THAT made a dramatic improvement. My Xinguye 150 GY6 did most all the typical "Chinese boo-boos" but honestly, it was pretty good transportation for over six years. I finally traded it on a well-used 2007 Kymco water-cooled 250 only because local roads increased in speed to the point that the 150 simply was not safe anymore, not being able to keep up with traffic. Otherwise, the 150 was just fine, and a LOT of fun to ride! One word of caution (I learned the HARD way): Keep WATER (especially spray-washes) FAR away from the electrics! No spraying around the CDI, coil, cooling-fan inlet, dashboard, etc. These Chinese scooters are NOT, I repeat NOT even close to waterproof! At near seventy years old, pushing the dead scoot home several miles from the car-wash convinced me... That, AND, a month of diddling with CDI, coil, etc. to get it running again! Another new CDI and Coil did fix it. Treat the little fellow right, and it will give you many happy miles!Ride safe! Leo in Texas Hey Leo, (not to change the subject or anything,) but when you finally got it home what watered-down part malfunctioned? It WAS the CDI. And DANG! It was an extra-good one, too! I had to get a factory manual just to FIND the CDI on my "new" old Kymco... LOL! That scoot is black-boxed and heavy-duty as my Honda car!
Keep yer' powder (and your electronics) dry!Leo

I got my first scooter the last day of February. It's a TaoTao150 EVO-ATM. I have a 23 mile commute and I have already logged 1200 clicks. I changed the factory engine oil at 200 clicks, and gear oil at 300. At 800 clicks I installed one of these performance CDI's. The orange one. Today I finally got round to installing an 'upgraded' spark plug and ignition coil. My wife says I spend more time playing with the scooter than I do spending time with her. She was out in the yard today giving me an earful and I dropped the new plug and it rolled down into the stator assembly area. So then I took even longer to fix things because I had to loosen some of the other panels to retried the AWOL spark plug. I half expected no fire when I finally did button things back together. But it fired right over. I am not so convinced the performance CDI has made any great difference. The one or two mph differences could be just the presence of or lack there of tail/head wind. I don't understand the wife being jealous of the scooter though, lol. HA! I understand. My chinoscoot disrupted my wife's life. In addition to my garage time and riding time cutting into her time with me, every time it didn't get me home I'd call my wife to hitch up the trailer, load the ramp and straps, and come get me and the scoot. Finally, one day she told me, "Here's money for a down payment. Buy yourself a real scooter." I came home with a new old stock 2009 TMAX.

Well, not quite. I shredded the tire on my trailer and couldn't find a replacement at 6:00 Saturday evening. I know she loves me. She came to get the trailer.
